I assume he is home-schooled. The indoctrination centers would be a waste of time for this bright child. They should at least be giving decent prizes, like a trophy, a family vacation, or lunch with a governor. I would think this lad deserves a scholarship.

I just wonder how they prove that they have actually read the books they claim. This kid is amazing! He inspires me to read more.

I read the article in its entirety, something I think a few posters on here failed to do. I also read the comments. Some good points were made.
I am usually OK with awards that have some objective criteria, such as number of books read. But...as one comment pointed out, there are ways to "game" this and read a lot of short easy books, as opposed to fewer but longer and more difficult books. A couple of commenters gave good suggestions for changes in the rules, rather than just drawing names out of a hat.
