Why can't felons vote?

If a person is deemed safe enough to walk the streets, then all rights should be restored.

I prefer they live the rest of their lives under a bridge. You violate the rules of society, you suffer the consequences. Eventually they will get desparate and do something that will allow the law to eliminate them from the gene pool.
