Congress, staff required to buy gold ObamaCare plans (Video)

Regulations issued by the Obama administration this week would require members of Congress to buy one of the top-tier insurance plans from the ObamaCare exchanges.

The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of the House sent guidance to members of Congress this week, based on a directive from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), that says they must choose plans from the "gold" level of insurance coverage, not "bronze" or "silver" plans. "Platinum" is the only higher level of coverage under the exchanges.

...
Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.) called attention to this requirement in a House floor speech Thursday, in which he said the policy shows more favoritism toward members of Congress and their staff.

"We all … have to go and get the gold policy. Not the bronze, not the silver, the gold policy from the exchange. That's the only one we can get," he said.

"You see, bronze and silver's only good enough for everyone else in the country. For members of Congress and members of the Senate and their staff, it's gold or nothing."

...
Harris said allowing members to be subsidized for only buying gold-level coverage is probably why many members don't want to eliminate the subsidy for Congress, something Republicans have been pushing.

OK - so now we have more info on these Congressional exemptions. They can only be used for the gold plans and above. That's why there was the earlier controversy this week about Grassley's insertion into the bill to remove the Congressional exemptions and the complaint that it would cost a bunch of money for Congress to fund their health plans. It's because they planned on requiring the staff to purchase the expensive plans who taxpayer subsidies.

What does that say about the bronze and silver plans?

Yep, ACA is dead on arrival. Who knows what Congress will do come January 1.

Unless the news media picks this up and runs with it, the dems and obama will round the bases and score another run.

We have seen how the political class is destined to remain more fair and even more fair under a socialist style administration who employs more media people on its staff than any other administration and who is litteraly interbred with media execs.

The law they make is for us, not them.

All the plans have the $6,250 deductible. Medicare with Part B and D is a Cadillac plan compared to the gold plan. The Gold plan in Virginia will run from about $300 to $900 depending on your age with a 64 year old costing the most. We are spending $900 a month for every Medicare beneficiary in the US and there is no means testing. If people want to complain about the gold plan maybe they should look at their plan and who is paying for that.
