The programmer in India is only worth $20k. Companies outsource jobs to save money, and some times they bring the jobs back in house to save money. Honestly, a company cannot pay an employee less than the labor is worth, or the employee will not show up for work. And the UAW among others have proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that it is not possible to pay more than the work is worth. If an employee punches in in the morning, he or she by definition must have decided that the highest and best use of his or her time is to sell it to that employer on the agreed-upon terms.

Someone needs to return to school because Democrats fought against ending slavery, and the free market encouraged higher wages well before government dictated any minimum wage.

Because the cost of living in India is so much lower, thus increasing minimum wages does little good here. It only raises our cost of living and pushes more jobs off shore..

I'll never understand the obsession with higher wages when higher cost is the only possible outcome.

Does it matter if you're making $5 an hour and rent is $250 a month, or $10 an hour and rent and everythign else is $500? The only outcome is you push jobs overseas to lower cost areas and thus increase the need for higher welfare, and thus more taxes which then increases the costs even more.

The COL in Kansas is no where near NJ or NYC. Push it for your state.

Because some states, on the basis of their track records, can't be trusted to do it on their own?

Free market is that, voluntarily! if you don't want to buy a product, service or work for someone you don't have to....what does slavery has to do with this. Slavery is taking humans by force and against their will.
The cheapest labor is the labor that is free.

Anything isn't better than welfare or we wouldn't have working Americans on welfare.

We also had children working in sweat shops, as well as shop owners not being restricted from locking their employees in the building only to have them killed in a fire cause they couldn't get out.

Actually Democrats and Republicans from the north are the ones that helped end Slavery....you seem to confuse southern politicians with northern politicians.

the north could care less about black slaves. The Abolitionists were a minority in the U.S. The civil war wasn't fought over slavery.
