Part of this is Sociology 101. Affluent men tend to marry attractive women. A "trophy wife" isn't going to be fat.

USA has inadequate food standards and regulations. FDA allows corporations to poison the general public.

When you are poor or live in a poor neighborhood, your only choices are fast food restaurants. Furthermore they end up getting suckered financially by shopping at places like gas stations. Think about it, who do you see purchasing crap in 7 Elevens etc. It's usually people struggling financially. They aren't going to Costco and buying an economical size product.

Many poor women in America are also depressed. Depression can lead to overeating.

@The OP: This might be at least in (large) part because many of the cheap and very easily prepared foods are unhealthy for you.

like_mind => Seriously, think of how much a green salad bar costs compared to the bag of fries."

Three Wolves In Snow => Seriously? Have you not taken the time to read anything else on this thread? I'm not going to repeat myself, you do the work and read.

You know, you're right -- I was repeating an oft-expressed lament of the middle class, and off-topic. This thread's topic is poor people surviving, not lamenting the price of splurging on a salad bar. Did I get what you meant, Three Wolves In Snow?
