They 'deliver' for a specific party; often against their membership's wishes. To wit....The Fiscal Times via CNBC

When President Barack Obama was reelected in November 2012, labor leaders eagerly counted on payback for helping to deliver the critical states of Ohio, Wisconsin and Nevada.

"We did deliver those states," AFL-CIO president Richard Trumka boasted back then. "Without organized labor, none of those states would have been in the president's column."

Nearly 16 months later – with yet another crucial election on the horizon -- Trumka and other organized labor leaders grouse that they have little to show for their fealty to Obama:

The AFL-CIO, Teamsters and construction trades unions are pressing for administration approval of the Keystone XL pipeline between Canada and the Gulf Coast to create thousands of jobs for their members. But so far, Obama has shared the concerns of environmental groups that the pipeline won't produce many permanent jobs and could pose an environmental threat.

Seems all is not well in the Democrat Party. You can keep your doctor and other lies. Thanks Joe Wilson. You were ahead of your time.

Joe the plumber, the patron saint of the tea party political flash mob, just joined a union.

While I don't disagree about union's need to "die off", the issue you describe is with the Democratic party. They used to represent the "working man" and wanted to see that he had a chance to get ahead. Working people have been thrown under the bus by the liberal wing of the Democratic party. Now it's the permanent welfare class and the non-working "do-gooder with someone elses' money" elite that are the group the Dems pander to. Work for a living...especially if you have some skills and work ethic and can earn sufficient living? What use are you to the Dems? Or vice versa?

Without unions who will represent the working class? Without unions who will champion labor laws? Without unions who will train the work force? Without unions to help keep management in check will race towards a 2 class society. Anyone who work for a paycheck that thinks unions are evil is a fool.

Yes lets completely destroy any bargaining power labor has after all its not like we have a free market society where people are encouraged to try and seek the highest value for their goods and services.

The fact is labor unions make about as much sense as corporations given the economic reality that the size of a supplier or purchaser directly impacts negotiating power.

Lot's of working republicans are members of unions. Wanting to kill unions is like going to a tea party rally and lobbying for the immediate halt to Social Security payments and Medicare.

We now have a US Dept of Labor to take of all that. We don't need some uneducated thugs with bats twisting arms to remain relevant.

We have Darryl Issa as an uneducated thug? Do you think government is capable consider only corporations will hold lobbying power in your scenario?

In other words, anyone who doesn't think as you do, is a fool.

I know who is the fool.
