I think this effects Europe more the North America since first off Russia is the main supplier of Natural Gas to Western Europe and well we have massive glut of Natural gas in both Canada and the U.S. that we both are going to be come huge exporters of LNG and Germany made a huge mistake by going for alternative energy and not building or modernizing their nuclear power plants and France made the right choice and they get 80% of their power from nuclear power.

German chancellor Angela Merkel made a mistake of going towards Green energy but energy efficiency and the huge costs of Green electricity now come into play and well they should of had a alternative just in case of this very thing.

Then again since us Canadians are not able to do much but sanctions and just say not to do that and make a few tough speeches that will pretty echo the U.S. position as well as most EU and NATO members in Europe but then again not much we can do since they voted on it and the people in Crimea voted to join Russia so if people do not goo and vote then that is their choice to do so and if they choose not to go and vote that is also their choice not much we can do since this is one issue that we have to make sure we do not escalate things.

Plus Russia controls their state media and we have our very own media controlling us and CNN tells me the top story is the Malaysian flight that crashed and is missing based on the amount of coverage.

Then again it makes a great distraction to cover that more then the goings on in Ukraine and Russia since by the looks of it we do not want to make a official statement that ends up backfiring or comes back to bite us again since Russia has veto power in the U.N. and they know how to use the U.N. for their own purposes as well as we do since they can make things hard for us and we can make things hard for them and China has not said much since they are avoiding picking sides since they need the Natural resources and trade with both of us and like I said unless the EU comes out with very strong remarks then we will also kind of stay out of it.

I mean we will keep an eye to what is going on and be prepared but since I doubt we will do much more then just condemn the actions and use economic and trade sanctions.

NO , again this is a new age era ,a new century . We dont live in caves. Are you really being serious or what? I mean you cant be serious..

So in America, if Americas population was 52% Canadian , and they voted to be Canadian you think that is acceptable? If they want to be Canadian , they have a country ALREADY called Canada.

Just like the Russians in Crimea , they can move to Russia if they want to be apart of Russia. You cant just go to a country that does not belong to you and claim it. This is how wars will start

The point is that if you move your troops into places like Ukraine, or South Africa and run fraudulent elections, you can do exactly what Russia has done, which is steal their land. In South Africa you could do it by neighborhoods, where all white, and affluent neighborhoods suddenly become part of UK, just because the majority of people want it. Let's move some more whites around the diamond mines, and then vote for them to become UK property. Does that make sense to you?

Nobody marches anywhere, Crimeans simply expressed their will to join Mother Russia as 56% of them ethnic Russians and only 25% Ukrainians. What's wrong with that?

History of Crimea is not that complicated, before 1954 it was a part of Russia and in 1954 the evil Soviet Empire simply gave Crimea to Ukraine, never asking people living in Crimea for their opinion.
Crimea was never truly Ukrainian: even after 50 years since it owned Crimea, Ukrainians comprise just a 25% of population there. Ukrainians never made Crimea their home.

And don't bring up treaties here, they didn't stop us from invading other countries...

It simply boggles the mind how American conservatives have become the traitors to American interests that they have long accused liberals, commies and socialists of being.

Cheering Putin because you think it diminishes the status of Obama-led US is a low point, even for you guys.

Just don't EVER, ever ever EVER, pretend to be "patriots" or "real Americans." You are neither. If it was the 50s McCarthy would run you guys out of town.

You need to look at the history area of the forum. Putin following the Dictator handbook used by the group coming out of the great Depression Of 1929.

And Quebec? If they want to return to "mother France?"

How about New England? Time for a new set of bars on the Union Jack?

Perhaps if the Crimean vote was an ORGANIC thing, that took place when there were no Russian troops fanning across the peninsula... THEN you could pretend this was some innocent vote/independence movement. (Kinda like Quebec's attempts).

And by the way, 56% is not even close to an overwhelming majority of the population. Barely a majority.

There is the possibility of increasing LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) imports in relation to Europe and in the longer term producing more gas in Europe by examining other energy options.
