Whomever sent this email, should have been fired. We all know damn well if races were reversed, the white person who arranged this meet and sent this email would be fired and it would be national news.

Let's have a DIVERSITY meeting but include the evil white man. Honest discussion with out white people? By honest she means a meet to complain how tough they have it and how white people are the cause of all their problems.....

This was racist. But they will get away with it because they are not white. And you wont hear a peep about this from the national media

Not excusiing the bad judgement excercised by these folks, just maybe they didn't want the kind of White Person that would come into the meeting and start spouting off horse droppings like this..." By honest she means a meet to complain how tough they have it and how white people are the cause of all their problems....."

Just maybe they did not want to have to deal with that type of automatic assumption based on ignorance.

doesn't sound like the sort of meeting at which freedom would prevail

Exactly the point I've been trying to make here, but you did it better.

I've never been to Washington but from what I hear its a pretty tolerant open to many part of the country. Are you telling me that my perception is wrong? That there is rampant racism there to the point that people with lighter skin tones must be excluded to have a discussion on diversity?

The "Staff, Faculty and Administrators of Color" encouraged employees to reply to the invitation to find out the confidential date and time of what was being called a "happy hour" to "build support and community" for people of color.

She said it could have been worded differently, but she maintains the staff members of color would have a more honest discussion about race without white employees.

Hmm, you did not understand my post. The meeting was for people of color to freely express their experiences with racism and learn how to deal with it without someone interjecting that their experience was not racism. The meeting organizer offered an alternative for Whites.

What is the assumption that if whites were invited what you would have is nothing more than interjections on white supremacy?

I don't know you. I am basing my response on my life experiences. A lot of the whites that I have met believe in the post-racial society which does not exist. I have experienced racism throughout my life, and I don't have time to hear people downplay it.

That didn't answer my question.

Amen.

That it got leaked outside the recipients was a mistake. That the wording wasn't more ambiguous was a mistake. "No whites need apply" was not.

Honestly if people want to have these groups and discussions and be racist about it in private among their friends, hey, it's America and they should have that right even if I find it incredibly distasteful. It should not be allowed at Universities that receive a cent of public funding.
