I have wondered if the percentage of children with a diagnosis/on meds in private schools (with more funding and often more individualized academic attention) is lower than in public schools, who receive the 30% reimbursement from the state.

You may not dispense prescription drugs to kids. That is illegal.

is that bad?

stupid if you think high energy is a bad thing.
maybe the teachers need some high energy.

kids are normally high energy after all giving shots to make them dumb?

Normal 5 year old boy behavior is the quickest way for a 5 year old boy to be diagnosed with ADHD or ADD.

Please post the name of the school that employs this nurse, as this would be violating Federal narcotics control laws in all 50 states.

School Nurse Gives Wrong Student Adderall - Fourstateshomepage.com

It's a parent's nightmare.Your child is in danger and it's out of your control. That's what happened to an Anderson parent yesterday.

Brandy Barkfelt received a phone call from Anderson Elementary Wednesday morning saying a major mistake occurred involving her daughter. The nurse mixed-up students, giving an amphetamine to the wrong kindergartner.

Mother says son's Adderall stolen from nurse's medicine cabinet - KCTV5

According to the school's nurse, his medication, a level two controlled substance called Adderall, was missing.

"What her words were was that the medicine cabinet can sometimes be left unlocked if the nurse is escorting a student back to their classroom. I was upset, angry, scared," Downs said.

The mother was upset because she doesn't want the pills to fall into the wrong hands. She questions why a medicine cabinet in a school with potentially powerful prescription drugs inside wouldn't be kept locked at all times.

Downs said she also doesn't believe a child took the medication.

While both situations are terrible, they are not the same thing as BentBow's implication that school nurses keep ADHD meds on hand to dispense to wiggly students without a prescription. That. Does. Not. Happen.

I simply will not give any credence to the opinions of an anonymous person on the internet, especially one who doesn't appear to know that the drug to which he refers is Ritalin, aka Methylphenidate -- WTF is Riddlen? -- and clearly does not have any idea how the drugs are classified or dispensed in a school setting.

Here's something you should keep in mind: for many years now, Methylphenidate has been available in an extended-release tablet that is administered at home by parents before school, meaning fewer students are receiving ADHD drugs during the day from a school nurse.

The other two major drugs for ADHD are Strattera (Atomoxitine) & Adderall (Amphetamine & Dextroamphetamine). Like Ritalin, Adderall is a stimulant and also available in extended-release form. Strattera is not a stimulant.

Also, let me point out that most children treated for ADHD do not require an IEP, so the argument about the "30% discount" is specious. In some cases -- those in which there is no IEP and the treatment is effective -- the child's teacher doesn't even know until a parent brings it to his or her attention.

Our principle had a wooden paddle...it is amazing how few cases of "ADD" actually occurred. Our culture that embraces mind altering drugs in such widespread levels is a disgrace.

These are not mind altering drugs. It's nothing more than speed which was plentiful when I was growing up. Except they were called black beauties and white cross back then. But adderall and ritalin seem to help kids focus and doesn't have the speed effect it does on adults. But it's not mind altering.
