Clinton is the best present this country has had since Truman..And I consider him to be equal to Ike.

As to your Kennedy question, he didn't complete a full term so I can't rate him.
You must be one o' those Hamiltonian types.

Well, isn't that just perfect!; a Hamiltonian Democrat.

Well, aren't they all?

Moral decline? There were 4 options to pick from! Both Bushes don't stand out as being anything special, especially the second one. Obama has yet to really do anything that is horribly well received. That leaves Clinton.

It's not as if people were asked to pick the best president, they were given a small poll and choose the "least terrible" one. Don't turn this into something bigger than it is.

P.S. I think your top 5 ("Lincoln, FDR, Teddy Roosevelt, Truman and IKE) is pretty reasonable.
I like Truman far more than I like Ike.

My biggest issue with Ike is his use of the CIA to overthrow governments.

The Mossadegh Affair alone might be the most disastrous foreign policy decision ever with the exception of invading Iraq.

We're still pay a steep price for that arrogant blunder.

Clinton? I'll answer that for you in another post.

Fair enough. Ike made some mistakes with the CIA as you say, but he quickly got us out of the Korean War, didn't have us militarily involved in Vietnam to any significant extent, protected Egypt from our allies and etc... He had other mistakes, but he was very good overall. Last year the national debt shrank was under Ike too! 1957 Fiscal Year!!!

Don't you just love it when the OP seems to think he speaks for everyone. Move along, this is just one person's opinion.

Hmmm...I don't think of myself in Hamiltonian terms...he could be quite the paradox.

Certain aspects of Hamilton are certainly appealing though.

Of all the "Founders, " my guy is and will always be Thomas Paine. In fact he's my favourite American of all time...hands down.

All the others pale in comparison IMO.

But that's my meaningless opinion.

I like Ike...don't get me wrong.

But Iran and Guatemala are very difficult to overlook, and Iran has been proven to be particularly egregious over time.

Congo too. The Lumumba overthrow was brutal and totally uncalled for.
