Don't judge a country by its high gas price, remember the majority of vehicles in the UK get higher mpg than cars in the US, diesel is priced close to gas as their small 1.8 diesel cars are capable of 60+mpg (Yes I have first hand knowledge of this)

IMO the cost of living in the UK (property prices aside) is much lower than here in the US
You are way off base. The cost of living in the UK is astronomical. It's toward the top of all countries and way way higher than the US.

And food?

U.S. residents spent on average about $2,273, or about 6.4 percent of their annual consumer expenditures, on food in 2012, according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

As a percentage of consumer expenditures, that is less than any of the 83 other countries for which the USDA tracks data.

We already control food and oil prices in this country. We give large farming subsidies to growers of certain crops, even paying some farmers not to farm their fields. We give large tax write offs to oil companies on wells that don't work out.

I say we just let the market decide winners and losers. Quit the subsidy and tax write off game.
The entire farm bill should be eliminated.

It's all hunky dory until certain freedoms they enjoy are eliminated.

I wonder if people realize 1-our country isn't set up for using public transportation and walking the way some are, we are too spread out and too car friendly. It would take years to convert people to cutting back on driving. Where I live, no one could get around without a car, it is way to hilly, curvy and the roads are not wide enough to add sidewalks for instant. I also wonder how many people understand many European countries are totally broke.

Higher prices to the consumer, especially to the poor and working people of America is NEVER a good thing!!!!

What is it with you people and your continual harping about Europe and how we should become more like Europe?

If you like Eurpope so much the move yourself there and enjoy.

Leave us Americans alone!

If you read your second link, further down in the article it says the US has the highest food costs of the countries measured, but this is offset by our higher income

If you like anarchism so much, like you RWNJs want so bad, why not move to Somalia and enjoy it?

Leave us sane Americans alone!

See how that works?

for cripes sake! I was mocking the post from yesterday where someone suggested raising gas prices to $10 a gallon like in Europe - for the "greater good".

good grief
