The black-white unemployment gap appears to have emerged in the 1940s, according to a 1999 analysis of Census data. Although labor economists, sociologists and other researchers have offered many explanations for the persistent 2-to-1 gap — from the differing industrial distribution of black and white workers to a “skills gap” between them — there’s no consensus on causes. One 2011 working paper, after reviewing existing research on wage and unemployment differentials among blacks and whites, concluded that “none of the existing models of race discrimination in the labor market explains the major empirical regularities.”

Any theories?

I have no theories.

But if you address facts, you will be called racist.

Two job applicants, both equally qualified: one black, one white.

Which one do you hire?

I don't think this fully explains it but one thing that reduces black employment opportunities is that there aren't enough black owned businesses that could be employing more blacks even in black areas.

This economist says that blacks could increase black employment by spending more of their money with black businesses.

There is no such thing as "equally qualified". I will choose the better suited to the job.

There is no such thing as "equal people", every one is unique.

Sub-economies, based on race, NEVER work out well.

I would give an honest answer, but I don't want to be accused of being a racist. Hint...why is almost every country in Africa in severe poverty and almost every European country self sufficient and wealthy?

Oh wait. It must be because of discrimination. Roll eyes.

You mean facts like the decline in manufacturing jobs that once employed large numbers of blacks? There are several factors involved with this. You'd only be called racist if you only focused on people just being lazy.
