This cop needs to be tried for murder...I don't care, he was unarmed...it was a toy...you can tell the difference.
Furthermore...cops need to be trained to shoot the legs or arms...not in the chest...that chest is an automatic kill shot.
Tired of cops being the judge jury and executioner. I have no respect for them anymore...the next time you see a cop actually help a kid like this will be the first.

Sad story all the way around. I have an 11 year old that has a bunch of those Nerf guns, and I STILL tell him that even though they are not real, do not point them at anyone. The kid's parents should have restricted him on where he can take the BB gun, but I do think the cops could have been a bit more careful too.

Actually the parents murdered this child by allowing him to run the streets with a BB pistol -, Furthermore you live in a fantasy world if you think someone can just shoot the am or leg like in the movies.
i own BB pistols and no you can not tell the difference in a situation as this.

Earlier this year, a child with a pellet gun (which appeared like a small rifle from a distance.....not a handgun) was seen walking along a street in my town without adult supervision, aiming it at squirrels and other critters. A concerned citizen called police and asked them to keep an eye on him because she was worried that the child might shoot at her pets. Luckily, our police are not complete cowards and the citizen who called knows the difference between what is basically toy and a gun. The police walked up to the child, took his pellet gun, and drove him home.
I wasn't there in Celeveland and I don't know how this kid was acting or how old he looked or how good the visibility was....but if the point of a pellet gun shaped to look like a hunting rifle is to safely teach kids how to eventually handle the responsibilities of a hunting rifle, then what is the purpose of a pellet gun shaped like a pistol or revolver?
I know it's not beyond cops to make mistakes or to be scared of trivial things (like the family golden retriever, for instance)......but where the hell were this kid's parents when he thought it was a good idea to run around a park with a pellet gun that looks like a .22 caliber revolver from a distance?
There are literally thousands of different kinds of BB & Pellet guns.
There are numerous pistols and rifles. Most look like if not exactly like a real gun.
There are even BB Machine guns. Yes, there are.
They can be powered by spring action, pump action, CO2, and even Freon.
The days of kids bringing their BB guns down to the vacant lot or the ole swimming hole are long gun in most places.
