Historically, the catholic religion was spread throughout the world largely at the point of a gun or sword.
You convert or you die.
Today the situation is very different. Catholics are more benign and even progressive than protestants these days. Just look at zealous missionaries, they are for the most part not Catholics.
Bingo...but this is where the Christians go back to their Old Testament roots.
But when you bring up some really bad stories of nihilistic behavior In the Old Testament, they then use the excuse that those texts are Jewish texts and have nothing do with the Christian faith.
They think they can have it both ways...mostly because few people call them out on it.
I'd venture to say that most on the left are Christians.
Unfortunately.
Most Americans are Christians, or at least claim to be. They have to. I don't think anyone would be elected president if he or she admitted being an atheist. There is quite some religious peer pressure so to speak, not unlike in Muslim countries
There certainly is a Christian left and it's growing and getting stronger by the day. It's been drowned out by the right for a long time, but they are finally starting to speak up and making themselves heard. There are several groups including this one, The Christian Left Welcomes You.
Huh??? "Inherently a left wing religion?" How so? Mind explaining?
Jesus was anything but "left wing" (of course, they wouldn't have used such a term in those days).
He advocated radical egalitarianism and outright claimed the rich were evil and the poor were good. He claimed the only way for a rich person to be good was to give all their belongings to the poor. You really don't see anything left wing about that philosophy?
