Man, I grew up hard and working class, I've never been "coddled" but their you go, assuming you know everything about everyone
Um... it's actually very obvious from your posts that you think you're entitled to more than you've earned merely because you exist. I suggested getting one or more roommates if you were struggling to pay the rent, and you replied with some kind of nonesense that you were entitled to live alone if you want.
I'm 51yrs , no dependents, single, and work FT @ $9.50/hr. I don't receive any gov help of any kind! I'm not eligible for ANYTHING! Every February (tax time) I file a straight form, with no extra candy of any kind. No extra forms to fill out.
How did you come to make $9.50 an hour at age 51? You don't have to answer. It's what people wonder. What decisions did you make in life going back to high school that put you in this position at this age that other people your age didn't make. This doesn't mean those decisions weren't noble but if making more money was your goal, they might not have been good ones.
The bottom 50% pays little or no taxes. These people need to start carrying their own weight and stop relying on the rest of us to pick up the slack for them. I didn't suffer through all those years of college just so I could hand over more of my money to cover their portion of the tax revenue. I'm sick of dragging all this dead weight around.
More of your money goes to enriching the already wealthy, so that should make you feel better.
When are the bottom 50% going to start paying their fair share?
When the bottom 50% starts getting like maybe 25% of the pie.
Not much but some of it is...social security, gas taxes. I'm not disagreeing with the concept that too large of a % of US workers don't pay any federal taxes but I was just pointing out they still pay some state taxes. In my state, the lower income people pay a higher % of their income in taxes than high income because we have no state income tax and collect taxes through sales tax, alcohol, tobacco, marijuana taxes, etc. How about we raise the national minimum wage and then tax some of that income.
Maybe if the bottom 50% can come up with some great ideas or design, plenty money would flow to them to enrich them.
How is that moral or right to get a pie that you have never earned?
I don't know about that statement "The pie you never earned" bit.
I worked steady for 55 years of my life and paid taxes for every one of those years. Now I'm retired and fall into those "who effectively pay no federal income tax". Are you saying that I didn't earn the right?
Still, I pay a hefty property tax every year. A hefty vehicle registration tax every year. The sales tax on my purchases in my area is 9.55%. I pay state tax and a plethora of other small government garnishments. You say I contribute nothing and didn't earn my federal exemption status?
