That's misinformation. Many people, especially in the media, misinterpreted a paper by a NASA scientist. He said that at their current levels California's reservoirs could be dry in a year's time. He didn't say anything about any other sources of water or account for any rainfall that will occur in that time. He was trying to illustrate how low we've allowed our reserves to get, not trying to get people to freak out and think California will die next year.

The Surprisingly Large Energy Footprint of the Digital Economy [UPDATE] | TIME.com

Here is a nice article...if anyone cares to read....

Quote:
Assuming no one turns these computers off, in a year one of these desks uses roughly the energy it takes a 25-mile-per-gallon car engine to travel more than 4,500 miles. The servers supporting all those desks also require enormous energy, as do the systems that heat, cool and light the massive trading floors beyond normal business hours. These spaces take up nearly a third of the Bank of America Tower’s 2.2 million total square feet, yet the building’s developer and architect had no control over how much energy would be required to keep them operational.

People, like it or not, coal isn't going away. Only moronic politicians can pretend that it is. So is natural gas. There are 7.5 billion of us. We need energy. We will burn every ounce of coal, cubic foot of natural gas, and gallon of oil that we can get our hands on. Just the facts.

Speaking of facts:

Largest solar plant in the world located in the great state of California.....

At Ivanpah Solar Power Plant, Energy Production Falling Well Short of Expectations

Quote:
The Mojave Desert plant, built with the aid of a $1.6 billion federal loan guarantee, kicked off commercial operation at the tail end of December 2013, and for the eight-month period from January through August, its three units generated 254,263 megawatt-hours of electricity according to U.S. Energy Information Administration data. That’s roughly one-quarter of the annual 1 million-plus megawatt-hours that had been anticipated.
Quote:
Output did pick up in the typically sunny months of May, June, July and August, as you might expect, with 189,156 MWh generated in the four-month period. But even that higher production rate would translate to annual electricity output of less than 600,000 MWh, at least 40 percent below target.

Another sign of the plant’s early operating woes: In March, the owners sought permission [PDF] to use 60 percent more natural gas in auxiliary boilers than was allowed under the plant’s certification, a request that was approved in August

It is, but they can mitigate AND STILL provide cheap electricity for their people.

What do you mean? We have a higher standard of living so we can afford to use other fuel sources other than coal? We are. It's called natural gas, but it didn't take regulation to push for an energy switch.

I thought you might be curious.

They only way to do that (currently) is to make coal energy more expensive. Luckily this is not a Congressional act and can (most likely will) be reversed by the next POTUS

Btw, do you want to see what the Obama ordered EPA emissions standard would look like in terms of energy source by 2030?

Roger Pielke Jr.'s Blog

Roger Pielke Jr.'s Blog

Truly great for people who were previously living in huts with no electricity. Have you ever gone more than a few hours with out electrcity?
You compared India's coal consumption to ours, now it's irrelevant?

Our air is not clean but it is relatively cleaner than other countries, we are gradually going away from coal a 30% reduction in carbon emissions makes sense on a number of levels.

No one is claiming green energy will replace coal, that has nothing to do with the discussion

California Governor Says Mitch McConnell's Pro-Coal Effort 'Borders On The Immoral'
And the governor's statement borders on the moronic. Given the source, that's no surprise. Loons like Brown, Obama, and most in the environmental movement are so removed from reality that they have no concept of exactly how electricity is generated. As long as their iPhones power up, all is gud.

Energy efficiency will only get you so far and now the environmentalists are pushing to curb natural gas because of the methane releases which according to them may actually make NG worse than coal.

What's the plan now?

How many farmers in the valley have packed up because they don't have water?

Sorry, but having been born and lived my life in California I can speak from experience...Gov. Brown is a disaster. He was during his first term. Governor Ronald Reagan left California with a comfortable surplus and abounding with jobs, business and good living. Brown screwed that up and left California in debt.

This second term (which should never have happened) has been even worse. Between Brown and the mess of Democrats in Sacramento who are absolutely clueless and have their feet on California's neck because they are in the majority and stop all intelligence between them and Brown, California has seen an exodus of business...ya know, the entity that provides jobs which pay taxes...and are pulling California down into a 3rd-world country mess.

I won't even address the so-called "clean air" environmental crap. I have lived within the bounds of Mother Nature for far too long to not see where stupidity reins on this issue and how very damaging it has been to the people of America, including how that mentality has caused destruction of food sources. I have the background and experience in having to fight environmental idiocy and know first-hand how far off base "MOST" environmentalists are in their total ignorance of reality. Brown is among this set.
