That is a sick human rights violation

They have every right to have nice things, too.

I love how Republicans are like "Government is too big, there are too many regulations and administrators."

And then want to pass bills like this, that both eliminate individual freedoms and increase the size of government to monitor and maintain the rules.

Isn't that just the way?

Republicans have voted against EVERYTHING progressive- if you want to call women voters and ending slavery progressive. Which many still do. Despite that being a violation of the Constitution. I'll always remember Dr. King saying that he was tired of fighting for rights already promised him in the Constitution of his own country.

I seriously doubt that anyone on welfare will use their money on a cruise ship. This is just basically more demonizing of the poor- which is damn near most of us in this country.

The Bible says that charity is to be practiced by individuals and churches. No passage of Scripture calls for or permits government to redistribute wealth.

Right? A cruise ship trip is like 3+ months of food for a family of 4.

Maybe we need to take this too the next level. We should regulate how public employees spend their money. We should mandate the type of toilet paper used in public facilities. No more than one-ply!

How about farm subsidies? Should a farmer be able to buy a new car or a plane or boat with YOUR tax dollars because trust and believe that is what a bunch of them are doing.

This 'management' of the poor is nothing more than an attempt to demonize the poor, plant the idea in the head of taxpayers that these people are gambling, doing drugs, drinking, or getting tattoos with YOUR money- then when they dream up a new scheme to deny them all cash benefits people jump up and down applauding.

Remember the welfare queen meme perpetrated by Reagan? This is exactly the same... if there truly is a fraud problem then resources should be devoted to dealing with that, but to treat the poor as if they are somehow living the good life on your dime, or even worse as if they are childlike and need to be managed is just disgusting.
When the poor were shouting tax the rich while they hang out on the corner screaming vote for Obama you know, he gave us a phone, he gonna give us more ... When they hang out on the front porch watching the working fools go to work to support them.. tattoos on people who don't have jobs... The poor got greedy, wanting more on the tax payers back instead of appreciating the help they get....

What do you expect?

I've heard of bonehead legislation before but this takes the cake. Even if someone bought it for them and somehow they got there, would they even be able to use them on board? I thought I was reading the Onion There was a noticeable lack of outcry from the cruise lines, so I don't think it's a problem.

Those cruise line employees are often working poor - low wage workers. If the worker uses the TANF card to buy a bottled water during her break from cleaning bathrooms, then her bottled water is going to ring up as a cruise ship expenditure.

Fast food/ sugar lobbies will oppose this proposed legislation.

Feeling humiliated is a choice.

oh that's priceless...there was no government welfare then; for the bible not to mention it sort of makes sense, right? But I will play along...the bible does not say it's ok to talk on phones or watch TV but I bet dollars to donuts that you do both every day.
