Sheryl Swoopes was on record in a Sports Illustrated article several years ago stating that she chose to be a homosexual for a few years, but has now gone back to men.
I do believe that some people do choose a gay lifestyle as a form of rebellion, and the main reason for that is something a "gay" girl said to me many moons ago. When she found out that I was not gay, she screamed at me that I was "everything my mommy and daddy wanted me to be".
That confused me. First of all, I'm far from everything my "mommy and daddy" want me to be. Second, why would someone who fights to be recognized and treated equally say such a thing? If this person has had to deal with people telling them that they "chose" to be gay, why would this person then scream at me as if I purposely chose NOT to be gay? It was a double standard, and I realized, this person isn't actually gay because they were born that way, this person was "gay" by choice.
Having said that, I do not believe that all gay people choose to be gay. I think some people really are born a certain way. It's not even about environment considering many had to hide it because society absolutely did not accept it. You can find that in other countries where homosexuality is punished very harsh. No one in their right mind would choose that if they knew that getting caught meant death.
Some people are born that way, some people choose it. I don't care about the people born that way, I do have an issue with those who use it as a childish temper tantrum.
I never understood why this matters? Respecting my rights is what matters, delving into others lifestyle doesn't.
thats the problem though. if someone wants to be gay, fine by me, go have a blast. however dont get in my face about it, and dont get upset when i oppose the lifestyle. one persons rights end where the other persons rights begin.
I see there are still idiots who don't realize there are also bisexual, bicurious, etc people and not just a 'one or the other'.
Congrats for those who can turn their attraction off. Anyone who thinks it's a choice matter, go a man and see how you like it and think about why someone would want to be something hated.
