Why do Lefties support and defend religions like Islam that are the most horrible on the planet for women's rights? Why do people like Hillary Clinton preach her Women's rights BS but take tons of money from people who deny them those rights and the Lefties ignore it?
No, but women are CLEARLY second class citizens in all Mosaic based religions...Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
Not in Christianity.. the bible is clear.. the man is head of the household but he must love his wife as Christ loved the church (his people) and laid his life down for it.. the wife is the helpmate and there is to be great respect between them. Not one greater than the other..yet the man should have the final say.. we are talking about two Christians married and living the words of the bible.
Orthodox Jewish women refuse to shake hands with men, too. So where is the newspaper article declaring that Jewish women hate men?
Folks, this article is just the usual Jew-bashing we get from the left. Nothing new here. I know it's fun to bash on the Jews, but it just makes you out to be hateful trashy people. Nebach.

That's your viewpoint, and it's as valid as my own.
I don't see this as Jew-bashing, since the majority of Jews do not have issues with men and women touching each other.
The reason some Orthodox Jewish women refuse to touch men is respect for the men. The no-touch rule is based on the belief that women are dirty or soiled (particularly menstruating women, and since you can't tell just by looking at a woman whether she is menstruating, about to menstruate, or is ending her cycle, better to not touch any woman), or temptresses. And either way, their touch must be avoided at all costs. The women refuse because they are entrenched in that culture, and so, out of respect for men, behave in accordance with such beliefs.
The religions that are based on the beliefs and teachings of Abraham, all, to a degree, consign women to second-class status. And those religions have helped form cultures that reinforce that second-class status, and the cultures, have, in turn, reinforced the religious proscriptions that force women to comply with such status.
Governments over time have become increasingly secular, and as religious power declines, the relationship between religion and culture becomes less intertwined, allowing women to challenge the ideas, customs and even laws that have afforded that second-class status.
It's not surprising that those who follow the most fundamentalist or orthodox teachings of their respective religions end up clashing with those of us who live more secular lives, who don't recognize women as inferior in any way. And I think that that is what this thread is about. The clashes between religion and secular culture, and how people can still respect the religious beliefs of others while also asserting the principle of equality.

Your post is so full of assumptions and bias. Your only goal is clearly to malign Orthodox Jews. I can't see how Jews refraining from touching others effects you in any way? I can see that you've gone out of your way to make a point about the evil Jooos.
Why is Amanda Bennett so self involved that she thinks what she thinks is right is more important than what someone else thinks is right?
Why do we tolerate the kind of bigotry that Amanda Bennett demonstrates?
Why would an intolerant religious person be so self involved that he thinks what he thinks is right and more important than consideration of those around him?
Really? Have I missed the Jewish honor killings???
Actually, yes you did.

In Yemen, a Jewish father killed his daughter after a rebuke from the rabbi for her extra-marital pregnancy, and in Palestine, in 2005, Faten Habash was beaten to death with an iron bar, wielded by her Christian father because she wanted to marry her Muslim boyfriend.
While gays rightfully complain about how religion unjustly discriminates against them, don't forget women also suffer from discrimination from the same source.
Marriage is between man and woman...period! Any other combination can go for Civil Union or whatever, but leave the centuries-old beauty of man marrying woman out of the equation.
Woman don't "suffer" from discrimination in America. They need to stand on their own two feet. It is up to each individual to live a good life based on decency, morality, ethics and self responsibility or choose another path. No one else is responsible for an individual's choices in life.
