Welfare is a disincentive to bettering yourself because it's not a gradual weaning off..it's a 100% cutoff and they stand to lose much more for very little gain.

Sweden, for example, treats welfare as taxable income and those on welfare in Sweden have to pay taxes on their welfare benefits.
I'm in that boat. I don't like it but, I'm starting to run into discrimination since I'm about 50, not 25 years old and it'll probably get worse the older I get. It ain't right but; it is what it is.

Lesson... never depend on others, not even the government. Make your own way in life.

I say save the money and offer them funds to move to another state that will give them more benefits. Or you get nothing.

If the area I live in doesn't have the job I want I would take it upon myself to move. Why do we always have to pay these people? And why pay them to move to get handouts? I guess it never occurred to them to work?

Greece is monetarily non-sovereign. Arizona is monetarily non-sovereign.

The United States is monetarily sovereign. It issues its own currency. Learn the differences.

Arizona "solves" its $1 billion deficit by cutting $4 million from welfare. (that's less than 1/2 of one percent of the deficit)

I thought Arizona was a supposed red state paradise. Why are they facing such a huge budget deficit?

I found this interesting:

As a result, the Arizona Department of Economic Security will drop at least 1,600 families — including more than 2,700 children — from the state's federally funded welfare program on July 1, 2016.

If it's Federally funded why are they cutting Welfare?
