Than the people need to get a better job. Should we simply make minimum wage $40K? Is that your answer? Sorry, but that's not the way it works. If you can't do anything but sweep the floors at business after hours, I'm sorry, but nobody owes you a paycheck big enough to live off of...PERIOD.

I'd def agree with you but; till the fools in DC really start nailing illegal aliens AND the employers who hire their kind are punished, wages will probably continue to drop and not just for unskilled workers.

It depends. If a person is working for minimum wage but owns an iphone, gets cable, and drives a late model car, then he/she either get a second job or go to work in a trade , if college is out of the question. Become a plumber, or electrician, or work for the railroad. Learn a trade and do it! When I was around 20, I learned very quickly that if I wanted to make a good living, I needed to work in male-dominated occupations. Was it tough? You bet, but I stuck with it. I became an apprentice lineman and later a locomotive engineer. Those type of jobs pay well, but you sacrifice a lot of free time for the $$. A lot of people don't want to do that, so they stay in lower paying jobs. Their choice but don't expect taxpayers to take up the slack simply because they don't want to work weekends. And let me tell you, I made much more $$ in those jobs than I ever will with the 2 Masters degrees I've earned in recent years.

Under $30,000 is poor in most parts of the country. Outliers are irrelevant.

You are deluded. I am saying that a person should be able to live on one income, and pay for the essentials. I am not talking about being able to afford entertainment or fancy cars.

This is the leftist agenda.....bribery to create an illusion that government cares, liberals care... designed to expand the wealth and power of the government at the expense of productive people is hardly an admirable course of action or objective. Politicians were support this hoax only with "other people's money." and will always demand more money from the productive people to keep the hoax going.

If you think you and your money will not be a target, think again.

Poverty wages shouldn't exist even for lower skilled jobs. This is understood in most developed countries.

Welfare except for the elderly and disabled should be eliminated completely.

We can dream can't we? Instead, we have every Tom, Jose & Mary either living off or supporting themselves with freebies.

I know someone who was out of a job for years. He said he wanted to work but wanted the same pay rate as someone who's been working at the company for years. Then when he did get a job, he complained and caused problems constantly. Guess what? He's out a job again.
