Actually, this one is a victim. One represents has uts origin in treason and loved and promoted by white supremacists. The other traces its history back to wanting its own governance to now, adored by those who want to throw out government and run by corporations (a 180-degree turn from its original intent, like the tea party itself).
The base? The base is a bunch of racists. The pressure needs to come from an economic boycott of South Carolina. Hit 'em where it hurts - in the pocketbook and they will come around.
I make part of the 'base'. You're calling me a racist?? Wow, that's a shock. Never been called a racist before. Likely because I'm not. You see how Charleston reacted to this shooting? We're the base here too. Tim Scott was our Representative in Congress before he became a Senator for our state. He's the base too. Is he a racist? Are we all racists too? Ever been here to see for yourself how we live and work beside one another?

I don't care about the flag itself, no. I do care about how the national media is reporting on my city. We've been, in my opinion, a shining example of how a city and it's people should behave after such a tragedy but that doesn't make for good ratings in the news. Cue the controversy. So yeah, I tend to make the effort to try and correct so many of the falsehoods being reported. However, the flag itself can be taken down or stay and I just do not care what happens with it.

Fine remove it. But guess what? It changes nothing? That flag being displayed had zero to do with why that incident happened. That happened because this nut was radicalized and is hateful. People are up in arms over a flag when the flag isn't the issue. And if they're going to go crazy over the flag, then at least be honest about who out it there.

Lindsay Graham recently admitted man-made climate change is real, and now Nikki Haley is OK with taking down a symbol of racism and a failed/defeated state?
Here is something the media won't tell you. A Democrat is responsible for the flag flying in SC. Ernest Hollings. Something else they wont tell you, Bill Clinton signed a proclamation authorizing the Confederate flag to fly over the statehouse in Arkansas. It was also a Republican who first tried to get that flag removed from SC.
But hey, let's just listen to the media NOT tell the truth and act like this is a GOP problem. I hate the media with all my heart. Lying, biased, dirtbags.
Do you honestly think a southern Democrat back in the 1960s was any different regarding racial issues than a southern Republican? Historical context is everything when judging an individual's or party's actions in the past. All you're doing by trying to divert the debate to the past is an attempt to avoid admitting that the flag TODAY has become is symbol of White Supremacy and hatred to many/most people.

I'm quite sure there is going to be a huge conservative backlash next time they are up for re-election.
Following the usual modus operandi of the Republican Party, Haley has decided to make this move to bring South Carolina out of the 19th century only after it has caused her party considerable damage.
And once again, we see that conservatism is really just liberalism... a few decades too late.
You do realize that the Confederacy was ruled by Democrats and overthrown by a Republican administration in the 1860's right?
And you do realize that the Democrats controlled the statehouses and the Congressional delegations of the South until the 1990's, right?
All this is, is the Republicans - Led by Governor Haley this time - cleaning up the Democrat's mess, yet again.
