Meh...companies make stupid decisions all the time. That's business. None of them do everything right all the time.
You up and leave if you have another job lined up.
But you're not gonna walk away from a 70k a year gig until you do. No one does that unless they're dumb as hell.
The seasoned experience employees no doubt will be picked up by a rival. He is learning you can't pay everyone the same if the level of job performance are not the same.
Actually it had a very good moral and warning. Stupidity destroys companies.
Look...the guy wanted to do something he thought was right with HIS money and HIS company.
So why are you guys so giddy that he's hit a bump in the road while trying to give people more money?
Was he taking the money out of your pocket to carry out this experiment?
If not, why be happy about his problems?

So what if they leave? Big deal.
Again, if they could make more somewhere else, why didn't they leave sooner?
But if they're quitting for the same money elsewhere, then what's the point?

Are yo sure the ones who left are worth $70,000 to another company. Just a year ago they were not worth $70,000 to him and they stayed. I understand why they would be mad. What I don't understand is the assumption that they are worth more than what he is currently paying them.
What really disgust me about many of the people who are giddy about this article is that many are sighting seniority as a reason to pay more. I think that is the worst reason to give someone a raise. Give them a raise for their performance. Never give someone a raise because they have been a mediocre employee for longer than others. My stupid roommate stayed with a company who slashed his pay because others found out he was new but making more than they were. He was more highly trained and able to do more than they did. Everyone threatened to quit because a manger exposed that the new guy who had more certifications was being paid more than people who had been there for years but refused to upgrade their skills.

That's why this story is extremely suspect.
If I'm being paid really well, and all of a sudden, my boss pays you the same as he's paying me despite my own suspicion that you don't deserve the same as I'm getting, I might be displeased...but unless I can make more somewhere else, I'm not about to quit my job on that principle. And frankly, neither will anyone else.
Now if I can find a better paying job, that's different. But if my skills were worth more money elsewhere, why didn't I quit a long time ago?
So this story is like...meh.
