A spectacular projection of Cecil the Lion which lit up the Empire State Building has been labelled "embarrassing" for suggesting the animal's death is more important that the deaths of many black people at the hands of police.
Many people on social media were unimpressed with the high-profile projection at the weekend, in a stunt raising awareness of endangered animals being killed by humans, after Zimbabwean lion Cecil was illegally shot by American dentist Walter Palmer.
Some felt the projection gave unfair attention to Cecil's death, when some humans are also "endangered" by being killed fellow humans. They highlighted the recent concerns over killings of unarmed black people in the USA by police, asking why the 'Black Lives Matter' campaign hadn't received as much attention as the death of a single animal.
This wasn't a last minute show - it is an art project promoting a TV documentary months in the making.
If blacks want to create a blacklivesmatter projection I'm sure building management will consider it.
Cecil was among a range of animals projected onto the iconic building, including a tiger, eagle, whale and lizard, in a show which trilled spectators on Saturday night in the US.
The images of Cecil and other creatures covered 33 floors of the building in an eight-minute video loop, and could be seen for miles around.
The "Projecting Change on the Empire State Building" show was created by Louie Psihoyos, director of the Oscar-winning 2009 film "The Cove," which raised awareness of Japan's brutal dolphin-hunting industry. Psihoyos is also the founder of the Oceanic Preservation Society.
The one-day show, called Projecting Change, is part of a promotion for the upcoming documentary Racing Extinction, which is set to air on Discovery Channel in December, according to the film’s official Facebook page.

I love how even the greatest satirist of all time could never approach this level of surreal comedy.
