Kentucky Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis, who lost her suit in federal court on Wednesday for refusing to issue same sex marriage licenses, has now filed an emergency request with the Supreme Court court to put a temporary hold on a lower-court ruling, saying that complying with the order would violate her religious beliefs.
The request goes to SC Justice Elena Kagan, who oversees emergency petitions in Kentucky. Kagan can either act on the petition alone or refer it to the full court.
Once the stay is denied, as it inevitably will be, then the question becomes, will Davis will comply, as she will have exhausted all possible legal remedies?
Davis says no. She has declared that she will not resign and has further pledged to never issue a license to same-sex couples no matter what the court demands.
Meanwhile, the Rowan County Attorney's Office said on Friday that it has referred to the Attorney General's Office a charge of official misconduct against Davis. A ruling against her could result in jail time and fines.
Ironically, Ms. Davis has been divorced three times and is currently on her fourth marriage. Yeah, she really believes in the sanctity of marriage.
I've found that many of those who cry bloody murder because us gheys can get married are also the ones that treat marriage like it's nothing. This particular clerk has been married four times. Says a lot about whether this is just religious beliefs or just bigotry.

She wants her cake and eat it to.
Some county clerks somewhere else had resigned or moved to another dept. in which they do not have to validate (or have their name on the stamp, validating) same sex marriages.
But I have a suspicion that she still wants that 80k/year job while exercising religious right and defying the ruling. That's the reason why she has been throwing her tantrum. Such greediness.
After all, she got that job from her mom. And she plans to give it to her son according to what I hear.
She isn't going to win. I support the right of a business to do business or not do business with who they choose but that doesn't translate to their employee's. If the employer says "we are going to do business with X......." as an employee you do business with them or move on.
Same here. The government has said that they will all marriage to same sex couples. Her choice is now to do her job or move on.
What I find amusing is that her request goes to Kagan, which essentially means it's dead in the water. It looks like there may be some jail time in Ms. Davis's future.
Having been married 4 times, according to her Bible, she is guilty of adultery at least three times.
"She holds an undisputed sincerely-held religious belief that marriage is a union between a man and a woman, only," the petition continues. "Thus, in her belief, [same-sex marriage] is not, in fact, marriage."
But apparently, that whole "till death do us part" is merely a suggestion in the eyes of God. Nothing like picking and choosing what parts of her religion she follows and which she won't.
Some jail time will give her time to reflect on her hypocrisy.

Once SCOTUS tells her no special treatment for her, they will fire her, for cause, no doubt.
