If only all solutions were this simple. Don't carry one.
OP, exactly what the poster above said.
Isn't that what makes America great ? You have the choice to not own, or carry a firearm if you don't want to. And you have the right to speak of your disgust and ignorance about it to anyone. You even have the right to call those that embrace the 2A whatever verbage you choose. It's amazing what the little pesky piece of paper called the Constitution does for us isn't it ?
All of the statistical data clearly show the op couldn't be more wrong.

In a real active shooter situation, why wouldn't the shooter turn to his left and just take out the people running for the door? They are within a few feet of him.
You are correct. The gunman in this scenario clearly knew which student had the gun, and where the student was sitting, and immediately targets the student.
You DON'T have to be a " trained professional " to hammer a nail, yet hundreds of millions of people do so with precision, same as a screwdriver and driving a car or even a keyboard, even though there are professionals who do.
Someone else made a great point about increasing your odds is a win.
Unarmed against an armed person intending harm = 0% chance of survival.
Armed against an armed person intending harm = greater than 0% chance of survival.
Armed and actually trained against an armed person intending harm = much greater than 0% chance of survival.
I'd prefer to be anywhere north of 0%
about the only thing is disagree with in your post is the odds of survival unarmed against someone that is armed. a determined individual can defend themselves against an armed person wishing to do them harm.
in the end life holds no guarantees except that we pay taxes and die. if one wishes to roll over for every criminal and ne'er do well they come across, then fine, enjoy being a victim. on the other hand if you choose not to be a victim, then you fight back, armed or not. remember that most criminals are essentially cowards, thats why they have a weapon in the first place, they are depending on the fact that most people are generally ignorant of the fact that just because someone is shot, doesnt mean they die right away, or are even incapacitated, too much indoctrination by hollywood in that manner.
now for the most part, if someone pulls a gun to rob a store, its not worth you life to defend a few bucks, but if someone has the intent on doing you bodily harm, then you defend yourself as if your life depended on it, because it does. and always remember, when seconds count, the cops are only minutes away.
im going to end this thread with something that cannot be debated.
if someone wants to kill you, they will kill you. end of story. if presidents can be shot with guards with guns near them, you will get killed in your house if somebody decides that they want to kill you.
simple as that.
Totally agree Prevention is worth a pound of cure. As one cat I heard say " You don't have to be the fastest runner when the tiger gets loose, you just have to be faster than the slowest runner". When you carry yourself....you just don't want to look like the easiest weakest target. But like you said......if someone really wants to get at you....they can and will. Hence, the thing to do is not give a person a reason to really want to get at you.
