Yes. A lot of time. And a lot of time in Vermont, which was what was compared to Detroit, incredibly enough. It's almost too funny too write. You may as well compare Switzerland to Iraq.

Have you ever spent time in a city ghetto, let alone one as expansive and bombed out as in Detroit? Have you ever lived in a city with a murder rate that is >400 per year? Have you ever been robbed at gunpoint or lived in a neighborhood with a high rate of street crime? Have you ever lived in a place in which carrying a pistol for safety was legitimately a necessary consideration?

The same basic problems do not exist in conservative small towns dominated by white people. Small drug and alcohol problems exist, but nowhere near the degree that they exist even in mildly bad neighborhoods in better urban areas, let alone in Detroit. The violence in Detroit and similar areas in other cities is beyond the pale in its disregard for life and its expanse. "Fear of outsiders" does not a Detroit make and, frankly, is a BS line concocted by liberals to demonize people for not believing what they believe. It usually means "they aren't tolerant of our crime or liberalism". And rightly so. I'm surprised you didn't bring up jaywalking. You are either lying or deluded in the extreme in a sad attempt to convince yourself and the rest of the world that small town white people are just as bad as everyone else. Its not true by any measure. Urban White people aren't even as bad, or anywhere close to it, and I can show you the street crime map, updated monthly, and the neighborhood lines to prove it beyond any reasonable doubt. The crime map doesn't lie. The only way your line of reasoning works is if it is for people who have never left their house. It's beyond ridiculous on its face. Its not even a shadow of the truth. Small town White America is more functional by every single possible measure, and to the maximum degree that any two groups differ in this country, in comparison with Detroit.

Also, remember, the original comparison was with Vermont. Moving the goalpost is illegitimate. I agree that there are bad White towns. But that was not the original argument. Vermont, in general, is above average even for a mostly white rural State. The average small town in America applies to my above statements.
