Let me guess...you live somewhere in the rural South...
Well, since all executions in Saudi Arabia are held in public areas for all to see maybe it would lower the crime rate in the US which is extremely higher than SA.
And before you ask, Yes I'm from the not so rural South, own guns, ride a Harley, was a US Marine who actually fought in the Middle East and have a PhD. And you?
But the US still has excessively long prison sentences.
You are attempting to argue that beheading for a single act of free speech is the same thing as a long prison sentence for active violent attempts to overthrow the government (which is the only way in the US to get 20 years for "sedition").

Not only are Saudi beheadings public, but their rate of execution is also much higher than in the US...and yet they still have crime. So there is no indication that public beheading would actually reduce crime.
This is so heart breaking. I have no words on this young man's situation....
As for why the US government is allied with KSA: I think the damage has already been done. For us to climb out of bed with them, and with other nations that have a nasty human rights record, we would have to undo everything. I agree with those that say "Why single out KSA?" Basically everything that our economy is currently dependent on means that we have are allied with the countries we ally with. Who is going to be the one to undo that house of cards? So we zip it and turn the other way.
If anyone here has studied political science or international trade, I think your perspective would be interesting.

Crime is a generic term that covers multiple items. Some type of crime will always be around in any nation. Statistically there is a large difference between the US (45) and SA (101).
