When the Pope pushes a "moral obligation" backed by religion, it makes hypocrites out of every living, breathing supportive Democrat and liberal in America:
1) Keep Kim Davis's religious views out of government!
2) Take the Pope's religious views on American social policy and incorporate them into government law and regulation!
Both of which affect American's, but only one of which liberals support!
The hypocrisy is downright disgusting!
The last time I looked, the Pope was NOT a government official charged with upholding the laws of the state of Kentucky or the US, so how is what he thinks about anything comparable to Kim Davis refusing to follow the SCOTUS ruling?

Your inability to think logically is really sad.
Linda, you completely miss the point. Ask me if i'm surprised.

If you support Kim Davis using her government authority to impose her religious views, but you criticize our members of Congress for doing the same, then YOU are the hypocrite.

Righties have one-dimensional thinking. By the way, Kim Davis told Megyn Kelly that she won't resign because she would lose her voice. To help you out there, Davis is using her $80K government job to push her religious views instead of serving the citizens of her county.

I was just reflecting about your old thread claiming that the Pope was going to regret his visit to the US. So far, the only thing about his visit that he seems to regret is meeting Kim Davis. The conservative who has tried to borrow the Pope's authority to support her conservative political position.
Reading through this thread, it doesn't seem so much to me that AeroGuyDC wants a discussion but rather a forum in which to take on liberals, oddly invoking hypocrisy as if hypocrisy isn't arguably everywhere you look! Most encouraging is the "thick skin," because all too often folks get offended when arguing politics or religion. I am about as progressive and thick skinned as they come, but I won't pretend to speak for all liberals like AeroGuyDC seems to think he is so qualified to do.
Kim Davis is a government employee who represents Rowan County, where she is expected to carry out her employment duties to issue marriage licenses in accordance with the law of the United States. Whether this makes Kim Davis a "representative" of the United States, is perhaps a debate in itself, but suffice to say, nobody employed anywhere has the right to break the law of the land without suffering the consequences. I suspect liberal and conservative can agree on this simple fact.
The Pope is the Bishop of Rome and leader of the Catholic Church. Lots of good comments and points of fact provided in this thread so far about both, but here too the truth of the matter is simple. The Pope like any other leader is expected to promote their agenda, and those who can get the invitation will certainly do what they can to promote their agenda to the United States via Congress.
I am always disappointed to find when religion clashes with the American commitment to secularism. I disapprove when those with strong religious convictions attempt to subvert the efforts by our government to maintain secularism, the separation of state from religious institutions and influences, as strongly insisted upon by Thomas Jefferson.
So..., am I critical of what Kim Davis did? Yes of course. Am I concerned that our elected government officials are unduly influenced by religious leaders? Yes of course.
Does that make me a liberal hypocrite? I really don't see how, no matter how much AeroGuyDC wants to misrepresent and criticize the views that are not his own.
Goodness! Worried about hypocrisy? Really? Well then..... look no further than the hypocrisy displayed by Ms Davis. A woman who claims to be a believing Christian but managed to purposefully distort the truth about her meet and greet with Pope Francis. Why? To make herself look like she was something special. Ummm.... not hardly. She obviously thought no one was going to check and see if her claims were true. She thought she could fool everyone into believing the Pope supported her attempts to discriminate against gay Americans. She tried to make it look like the Pope gave her encouragement to continue her discrimination crusade. Liar, liar pants on fire.
Disgusting? Ms Davis' attempt to use Pope Francis to advance her homophobic anti-LGBTQ agenda is disgusting.
