Nice shooting kid! Impressive! One more savage thug the state won't have to convict for a 7TH time!
Especially since the parents had not taught him how to use it. In all honesty this could have gone very badly, parents should train their children in weapons at a early age.
I'm not seeing any controversy here aside from what greywar pointed out. People should train their kids on how to use guns if they are going to have them in the home.
The only other issue I could conjure up is the alive perp not being charged with murder. His actions in the commission of a violent felony led to the death of his cohort.
It would be nice for the alive perp to get a murder charge. Too bad the kid didn't take him out too.

I agree, if you are gonna have a gun in the house, it is important for everyone to know gun safety and how to use a gun properly.

Absolutely. Just glad it happened as it did. Sucks a 13 year old was put in that position but hopefully he realize it was going to be him or them. He did what he must to protect himself and his home and in the process helped rid society of a thug that was convicted six times already.

Good points but I'm not sure I quite believe that the parents didn't teach the kid how to use it. Could just be a reporting error, there are lots of them anymore.

Absolutely. My son has been trained, and is going to continue to be trained. There is an added benefit too. My best friend is ex-military, so between he and I, my kid is in good hands as far as proper protocol around guns.
The wife is next to be trained. As soon as she gets a lid on some of these health issues, she will be going with my friend and I to the range. Hopefully, by next summer she'll be going with us to New York up in the woods for more target practice. I'd love to see her reaction the first time she pops one off with a 12 gauge!
I guess another "issue" could be the boy chasing the perps as they fled the scene and still firing.
Always want to be on top of your state's self defense statutes. Many places don't take too kindly to someone pursuing the perp. I don't expect a 13-year-old to know that or even put it in practice during the heat of the moment.
