I recall that there was once a "first amendment" that protected free speech, even "hate" speech, whatever that might be? And, isn't the number one task of the federal government to uphold the constitution of the United States?
The laws against terroristic threats apply to those who would use them against Muslims just as they would in any other case.
After an attack like the one in CA, blowback is (and should be) a concern. Often the bozos who go out and launch vigilante style payback attacks don't even target who they intend to.

After this tragic event my greatest fear is that a load of wanna-be jihadists start killing and blowing up pipe bombs at small time affairs like they do in the ME. You know..weddings, birthday parties at public venues.
With Syrian refugee's coming it I remember mentioning IED's and liberals went bonkers. They refused to believe that it's possible here yet there they were making lots of pipe bombs.
