Authoritarianism is an issue for almost everyone. People on the left and right both want to use state "authority" to enforce their personal opinions of how things should be on everyone.

Right wing and left wing/Republican and Democrat isn't the distinction as much as Authoritarian vs Libertarian/Classical Liberal. I believe George Orwell pointed that out. You either want to control people with a centralized authority, or you want to let them make their own choices. Most want to put their own personal central authority in power because, hey, I'm right and anyone who disagrees deserves to be punished.

It is deflection, but it is also mainly true. Muslim countries for the most part are authoritarian dictatorships. It helps control the population, maintain status quo, and keep the ruling families in power.

Liberals will always rush to defend Muslims whose religion is anti-freedom, anti-democratic, anti-gay, anti-woman, and anti-basic human rights.

That pretty much proves it.

Liberals are not just fascists -- they are worse than fascists.

They are COMPLETELY motivated by hatred of personal freedom, hatred of equal opportunity instead of equal outcomes, hatred of success based on merit, hatred of freedom of speech and conscience.....

They are motivated by RACIST hatred of whites, SEXIST hatred of males, hatred of America, hatred of the successful, hatred of Western Civilization, and hatred of civilization, PERIOD.
Rofl. Liberals are worse than fascists. Ok mussolini, have a nice day.

Right-wing authoritarianism is measured by the RWA scale, which uses a Likert scale response. The first scored item on the scale states, "Our country desperately needs a mighty leader who will do what has to be done to destroy the radical new ways and sinfulness that are ruining us." People who strongly agree with this are showing a tendency toward authoritarian submission (Our country desperately needs a mighty leader), authoritarian aggression (who will do what has to be done to destroy), and conventionalism (the radical new ways and sinfulness that are ruining us)

There have been a number of other attempts to identify "left-wing authoritarians" in the United States and Canada. These would be people who submit to leftist authorities, are highly conventional to liberal viewpoints, and are aggressive to people who oppose left-wing ideology. These attempts have failed because measures of authoritarianism always correlate at least slightly with the right. However, left-wing authoritarians were found in Eastern Europe. There are certainly extremists across the political spectrum, but most psychologists now believe that authoritarianism is a predominantly right-wing phenomenon.

Ironically, it sounds like both Muslim nations who support Sharia Law, and a bit like Trump. You'll notice that leaders like to use outside threats to scare people into giving them control. You can see that on the left as well, not just the right. They like to demonize groups like the rich, whites, males, etc., and they'll also use things like climate change in the same way. Create or use an existing threat to scare people into giving them control.

If you think Bernie is advocating doing "what has to be done to destroy the radical new ways and sinfulness that are ruining us" I'm not sure what plane of reality you're living in.

I won't defend the Republican Party, but it is funny how people don't see their own inner control freak. Leftists don't see themselves as authoritarians or control freaks, but they're the ones berating anyone calling for deregulation, less state control in the economy, less government programs, etc...they think that their liberal social views make them liberal as a whole, but they're just as authoritarian as the right can be.
