Obama nominating Cruz is an interesting idea. Would he accept? If he did, it would obviously take him out of the race, and improve Hillarys chance of winning. The balance in SC would remain the same, and Hillary would get to make the next nomination.

Perhaps you can quote to part of the US Constitution that says the US Supreme Court is "shut down" with 8 Justices. Obama can recommend whomever he wishes to the US Senate - they are NOT obligated to approve his recommendation. The Senate has Advise & Consent power over a Supreme Court recommendation.

What was Obama's favorite remark during his first Term? "Elections have consequences" & "I WON".
The Elections of 2010 & 2014 have the same "consequences" as the elections of 2008 & 2012.
Harry Reid & Nancy Pelosi no longer have "cram down" powers. Over a dozen Supreme Court decisions have struck down Obama actions - the latest was just 4 days ago.

ELIMINATE THE THREAT AGAINST THE CONSTITUTION! The ultimate sacrifice for preserving the Constitution, from further destruction.

The Constitution is a Static Document, that becomes dynamic only with the amendment process, not statutory law.

If the GOP obstructs an appointment of a new Justice until after the election, the Democrats are guaranteed a victory in the House, Senate, and for president. This election then will have unprecedented impact and will motivate more democrats to get out and vote.

Yes. I agree. I doubt I will like anyone that Obama picks, but the process is what it is. Elections have consequences and this is one of them.

What should happen?

That's easy. The president should nominate a replacement, and the Fools on the Hill should get busy without respect to Obama's clock counting down.

Newsflash for now-contrite Obama voters: There are consequences to your choice, and filling SC vacancies is one of them.

Yes. It was dumb of the GOP to announce they will reject any nominee from Obama, because they basically admitted being partisan hacks. If they are going to reject, then reject and come up with reasonable explanations why a nominee is not suitable. It's stupid to come out and say they will reject just for the sake of playing partisan politics.
