I have no idea what qualifications, or lack thereof, she has and how they did, or did not relate to her gaining entrance to Harvard.

But, I will add something to this thread. I have a friend who came from a well connected and well to do family. He's done well enough in life, but nothing spectacular given his advantages. A friend of mine, a retired bank president who started from very humble beginnings and worked his way up said the following which I think about quite often when subjects like this come up.

"He was born on 3rd base, and spends his entire life thinking he hit a triple".

Get the point ? It's in the attitude. Some recognize how their advanced standing has helped them in their life. I give then a ton of credit for that. Others born with advanced standing think they have done it all on their own.....and how wrong they are ! Maybe they are on 3rd base, but they may have been born on 2nd base. Not much different than a person of humble means getting to 1st base.

My first job came to me from a connection my parents had to someone in a position to hire me. I worked hard, got an education and have done well enough. But, I'll never know how things might have been different, perhaps much more difficult, if I hadn't had that first connection that got me started.

Connections are important. It's called 'networking'.

Over 400 posts about a 17 year old girl from a wealthy family with an elite private school education being accepted into an Ivy League university.....what could POSSIBLY be so "controversial" about this scenario?

Yet another "over 50 posts ...", "over 100 posts ...", "over 200 posts ...", "over 300 posts ...", and now "over 400 posts ..." post. Next week it will be "over 500 posts ...".

If you don't think there's anything worth discussing, feel free to move on the the next thread.

Nope. Sorry. My opinion is needed right here. But thanks anyway.

I do LOVE watching the underclass of "certain people" being mad at black excellence. It feeds my soul to watch them lament black achievement. Their tears are so darn delicious.

A snicker is all those sentiments merit since there is not a shred of truth in the idea that people are angry about or resent black achievements.
