Both liberals and conservatives assume Europe is much more liberal than it really is. Europeans are much more conservative about abortion and gender roles. Children seem to be more disciplined here than in the US. The way of life is more old-fashioned in Europe as people don't seem to rush from one pointless appointment to the next as is the case in the US. Even if they aren't all that religious, most stores are closed in much of Europe on Sunday's. The supposed socialist Europeans have advertisements on everything and have commercialized everything from tap water in restaurants to toilets.
For those that haven't been, Europe is in many ways a surprisingly conservative place.
Nearly every European country makes abortion available on demand during the first trimester.
In the US 91% of abortions are in the 1st trimester and 9% in the second.
Right wing US politicians though want to ban ALL abortions, asserting that life begins at conception.
Europe is more liberal than the US - abortion on demand during the first trimester..
I agree on imposing a 12 week limit, with the exception of babies with birth defects.
But the waiting period requirement would be much more of a burden for Americans than for people in Western Europe. In some states, there are only a handful of abortion providers, often overburdened with patients. There's a lot more effort here to shut clinics down altogether. For most in Western Europe, abortion remains relatively more accessible to most, so the required waiting period isn't such a hardship.
