Equality Florida, the state's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization is collecting contributions via this GoFundMe page to support the victims of the horrific shooting at Orlando's Pulse Nightclub.
Equality Florida statement on mass shooting at Orlando gay club:
We are reeling from the tragic news that a gunman opened fire on the 2am capacity crowd at Pulse leaving 50 people dead and over 50 injured according to Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer.
We are heartbroken and angry that senseless violence has once again destroyed lives in our state and in our country.
Gay clubs hold a significant place in LGBTQ history. They were often the only safe gathering place and this horrific act strikes directly at our sense of safety. June commemorates our community standing up to anti-LGBTQ violence at the Stonewall Inn, the nightclub that has become the first LGBTQ site recognized as a national monument.
We have received a steady stream of emails and messages from those seeking to help or to make sense of the senseless. We make no assumptions on motive. We will await the details in tears of sadness and anger. We stand in solidarity and keep our thoughts on all whose lives have been lost or altered forever in this tragedy.
Maybe instead of some people hoping the killer is Muslim, and some hoping it's a Christian, we should all hope for "Never Again in America."
That would be the right thing to do, but it seems a lot of people on message boards and talk shows get some kind of thrill out of slinging mud to people on the other side of their political views and then playing the "I told you so" or "I'm right and you're wrong" card.
Several posts proclaim Christian hatred and intolerance of those in the LGBT community. I know a ton of Christians of all denominations, all races and classes and all ages and only one of them thinks homosexuality is a sin. One. The rest of us don't believe it's a choice, a sin, or any of our damn business. And most of them are not only Christian, but Conservatives or more moderate Republicans.
The LGBT community has a lot of power right now, and laws are changing to protect them and their rights.
Since most lawmakers are Christian, which is it? They hate the LGBT community or not? Can't have it both ways.
The ex-wife of the 29-year-old man suspected of killing 50 people in a Orlando nightclub early Sunday said that he was violent and mentally unstable and beat her repeatedly while they were married.
The ex-wife said she met Omar Mateen online about eight years ago and decided to move to Florida and marry him.
At first, the marriage was normal, she said, but then he became abusive.
“He was not a stable person,” said the ex-wife, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because she feared for her safety in the wake of the mass shooting. “He beat me. He would just come home and start beating me up because the laundry wasn’t finished or something like that.”
The ex-wife said her parents intervened when they learned Mateen had assaulted her.
Her parents flew down to Fort Pierce and pulled her out of the house, leaving all her belongings behind. The ex-wife she said never had contact with Mateen again despite attempts by him to reach her.
“They literally saved my life,” she said of her parents.
But by all means let's let in more people who follow a religion started by a child molester.
This guy was a citizen born here. We could have secured the borders and it wouldn't have stopped this. I believe we should secure our borders but it's irrelevant to what happened here.
We need to secure our borders to not only keep some out, but to keep us in.

Don't let riff raff in and the odds of this happening are significantly reduced. We have enough home grown crazies without importing more.
If the parents of this scrotal sack were not allowed in, 50 people along with the injured would be alive and or well.
