We have not been buying gold like it has been going out of style for nothing.

Even most of the main Universities, not just in Texas have been heavily investing in Bullion.

I'm not worried about Texas leaving. In the first year afterwards (if they did leave), social security and medicare payments to retirees would bankrupt the state. Regardless of their gold buying.

I think if Texas wants to secede, it should. They've been threatening for years--let them go.

I definitely think South Florida should secede from North Florida. These are two different cultures, with most of the economy emanating from the south, and having to deal with idiotic laws and decisions being made in North Florida, with the Disney lobby deciding what is best for everyone.

North Florida bases many decisions on conservative politics and religious views. South Florida is the opposite.

When medical marijuana was on the Florida state ballot, it was decided by a vote (that did not get a 60% majority) that the marijuana approval had to have a 60% vote. Britain did not even require a 60% majority vote to leave the EU!

Free South Florida.

That makes a ton of sense. The money is all in South Florida, why should they put up with North Florida votes? We have something similar in Washington but the population is where the money is so when Eastern Washington complains we recommend Idaho.

They should wait for the federal debt crisis when interest rates rise. The federal government will be incapacitated.

So what would happen if they did?

1. 31 Military installations in the state, make that the new country, would shut down and have to re-locate back into the US. That's ok though, they don't contribute much to their local economies.... cough..cough.

2. NFL teams would have to relocate to the US.... Cowboys and Texans.

3. NBA teams would have to relocate to the US...... Mavericks, Rockets & Spurs.

4. MLB teams would have to relocate to the U.S......Astros & Rangers.

5. A host of other associated teams..... out.

6. The universites.. no more NCAA.... form their own TCAA.... and play each other in the country of Texas.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...s_sports_teams

7. Federal facilities like courthouses, parks, etc. will have to be closed.

8. Federal funding for highways, airports, universities.... no more.

9. Disaster relief, postal service, federal law enforcement.. no more.

10. Many big companies there would either relocate to US or downsize.

11. If Texan secessionists want any of the above srvices in their newly minted country, get ready to create and fund them.

Did I leave anything out?

What would happen if Texas actually seceded?

If Texas set in motion the idea that any state in the union could just get up and leave without condition, you would begin to see a much bigger push for secession all across the country. If Texas left, you can be assured that many of its neighbors would leave as well. And the chaos that would be the result, would further destabilize governments and our economy, which would then further radicalize the people, especially that portion of the population who already strongly want secession(~25% to 40% of the population in many states).

Basically, if Texas were to leave, this country would fall apart practically overnight. Which is why our government will never let it happen. And it is exactly the reason it didn't allow it to happen last time either.

As James Buchanan(15th president of the United States) said of secession....

"In order to justify secession as a constitutional remedy, it must be on the principle that the Federal Government is a mere voluntary association of States, to be dissolved at pleasure by any one of the contracting parties. If this be so, the Confederacy is a rope of sand, to be penetrated and dissolved by the first adverse wave of public opinion in any of the States. In this manner our thirty-three States may resolve themselves into as many petty, jarring, and hostile republics, each one retiring from the Union without responsibility whenever any sudden excitement might impel them to such a course. By this process a Union might be entirely broken into fragments in a few weeks which cost our forefathers many years of toil, privation, and blood to establish."

Let us not forget that Texas is itself incredibly diverse. If Texas were to attempt to secede, its capital wouldn't even want to go with it, as well as all Southern Texas, from El Paso to Brownsville.
