No it was those in India who tried it.......this is their laws and how they have handled it.
I understand people are not advocating child sex, but that doesn't stop bad people from using them. Super Bowl is the BIGGEST event that includes child sex slaves........if made legal, which, in some ways I agree, will children be protected?
I know first hand and have a circle of friends also operating free by choice.
Make it legal under labor laws and all the protections associated. It will definitely be "by choice" for everyone and enforceable by the law.
Human trafficking exists not only sex trade but in other labor types; nanny, housekeeping, agricultural, restaurants etc.... If the existence of human trafficking is not enough to abolish housekeeping services (and the like), then it shouldn't be enough to abolish sex work. Legislate laws against the criminal elements not the labor type. Labor type itself is a individual's choice.
I doubt many low-end jobs that are undesirable qualify for "nice and neat and tied with a pretty bow". They are legal.
Are you ready to pay taxes and healthcare out of your own pocket? You know once made legal you will not make near as much uncle sam wants their part.

When child labor was used in the textiles industry putting children in harms way and subjecting to abuse, it was determined that they needed to be protected from "bad people". The end result was labor laws limiting the use of chid labor. What was NOT done was the abolishing of the textiles industry.
Does child labor still exist? Probably does to a small degree in this country. But history suggests that it is drastically reduced since the 1920s (or was it 1900s?).

Absolutely!!!!!!
No question about it.
Read back to my posts and you will realize that my primary concern is for the safety of the workers.. I'm not concerned about the consumers or consumption side. In fact, I have already posted that I am all for legalization of the SALE of sex (federal, due to human rights issue) while keeping the legalization of the PURCHASE of sex decision at the local level. This will allow each state or county or municipality decide only on whether or not purchasing sex services should be allowed while allowing women legal protections.
Besides... for legal vices (alcohol, smoke, gambling) there is already a premium in cost. I don't see why sex services should be any different.
The only way to limit the spread of STDs is through education. You cannot legislate it without abolishing or regulating the act of sex itself. Normal law biding citizens have unprotected sex each and every day.
If you research the legalization of Nevada prostitution, you will find that what surrounds it is a lot of education for the sex workers. This is something i hope spreads throughout the country once prostitution is legalized. They require strict condom use at ALL times along with regular health checks.
Even many high end agencies will often terminate a girl from their roster if there is reports of BBFS being offered to customers.
The porn industry also has regular health checks. HOWEVER (and this is very important), they DO NOT require condom use at all times. If you take a sample of porn and examine the content, it almost always has actors and participants having unprotected sex. Some of the most popular categories of porn specifically call for single (and multiple men) having unprotected sex (to internal completion).
Education, Condom use ALL the TIME, regular health checks. You have to have all three.
ALL of the people I know working do so only with condom use. Even from a pure business perspective, it makes no sense to have unprotected sex. From a logistics perspective, it makes no sense to have unprotected sex. From a hygiene perspective, it makes no sense to have unprotected sex.
Even me personally, I have never had unprotected sex with anyone prior to marriage. During my time with my previous GF, we used condoms at all times. The first time was after I got married to my current wife. That was after getting tested and the decision that we wanted to have children.
For all those that are sexually active, I highly recommend getting tested before marriage and having unprotected sex. Sex workers do not corner the market for STDs transmission. It occurs within and throughout the regular population as well.
If STD is truly the issue, which I know is just red herring, we should ban every homosexual. STDs are most common in gay men.
I understand consent-- but prostitution is normally not "free by choice" as you make it out to be... so nice and neat and tied with a pretty bow
This is an asinine argument. Nobody, let me repeat, nobody is absolutely free by choice. Nobody is even born into the world by choice.
"I go to work not because I am free by choice. I was forced to work because I have to pay bills."
Let's not have that kind of asinine argument.
People go into prostitution because they lack of other skills or they perceive it's a better way to make money. That's their free choice and that's their consent. What else do you want them to do? Starve to death?

How many prostitutes have you ever known in your life.
They aren't trolling for dinner, they are trolling for drugs, or big money..
Most of them are drug addicts. They are owned by dealers.
They also have kids with the dealers and collect welfare.

Well I have known one personally. She was doing it to house and feed her kids.(after her husband died) When she was able to find a job, she quit prostitution.
Generalizing any group is wrong and usually not true.

This is all generalizations.... most false.
I know more than 10 in my circle of friends working and was in a relationship with one for a long period of time.
Drugs and human trafficking exist in other labor types... we didn't outlaw the labor we outlawed the criminal element. .... with the exception of sex work which is wrong
