Well, that sucks because it looks like the coup failed.

Maybe not, I am now seeing reports that the Turkish Navy and an Army armored brigade have joined the pro-coup forces.

Let's hope they pull off a miracle and give Erdogan the boot

EDIT: The Turkish media is largely state controlled, obviously they are going to insist that all is well and the coup has been defeated. I think it will be some time still before the actual outcome is clear, especially if more forces join in the coup.

So you oppose Hillary and Obama siding against the coup.

Someone pointed out yesterday (another channel), the more we squeeze the caliphate, the more we are going to see terrorist attacks in our country and in Europe. You really have to go the "hearts and minds" route to get rid of them.

What? Obama's "diplomacy"?
We do have to go to the "hearts" and tear them out.

The film of all those coup soldiers surrendering on the bridge pretty much shows the coup failed in my opinion.

Seems the coup participants lost the will, or were taken back by the lack of support from the population.

The Turkish military doesn't answer to the president and they are tasked with maintaining a secular nation. Erdogan has however been putting loyalists into the top positions amongst the military, being fully aware of previous coups such as in 1980 where the military booted out wannabe Islamist's.

With this coup seemingly having failed, what we can expect to see is Erdogan acting even more authoritarian, cracking down on enemies real and imagined, basically using the coup as a pretext to eliminate his foes in the military and others, whether or not they had anything to do with the coup.

His government has become one of the most repressive on Earth when it comes to freedom of the press.

As well as increasingly pushing religion into every sphere of the government, betraying Turkey's secular legacy as founded by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.

Keep in mind that this is how the guy who was responsible for founding modern Turkey as a secular state felt. Erodgan is the anti-Ataturk in many ways. It would be like someone who was for putting America under the British Monarchy once more becoming President of the United States.

Turkish people we know claim that the coup was lead by a group that is more fundamentalist Islamic than the president.
