And yet they've had several recent shootings that have killed far more than the worst shooting in America (Orlando.)
Yes they had a number of shootings in the last year but it doesn't come close in comparison to the US, if they had loose gun laws like ours it would be far worse.
"Yesterday, Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey announced that she wants to further restrict the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Massachusetts citizens by arbitrarily changing the way her office enforces the state’s existing “assault weapons” ban. Massachusetts state law currently prohibits the possession of “assault weapons” and large capacity feeding devices (defined as devices capable of holding certain amounts of ammunition) and “copies or duplicates of the weapons.” This law mirrors the federal “assault weapons” ban that expired in 2004.
Attorney General Healey claims that gun manufacturers across the state have been selling firearms to citizens that they claim are compliant with the law, but that she says would be considered “copies or duplicates” of the “assault weapons” prohibited for possession under Massachusetts law.
By doing so, Attorney General Healey has over stepped her boundaries as Attorney General and created a new definition outside of the statute that currently regulates so-called “assault weapons” in Massachusetts. This new definition could lead to a total ban of all semi-automatic firearms in the state. Your NRA-ILA will be working tirelessly to protect the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners in Massachusetts by looking into the legal options available to fight this egregious attack."
Likewise. I never had much love for the NRA, but every time the president starts talking about gun control I write them another renewal check.
I had let my membership laps a few years ago. Now I think I'm going to sign up to be a lifetime member. Also time to add to the collection....damn, I'm going to need another safe.

And, of course, the vast majority of America's gun crimes are committed by gang members, drug dealers and street criminals - not members of the NRA, licensed handgun carriers nor AR15s, but the incessant wave of new legislation addresses the latter and not the former every single time.
No, 75% of Americans are not in favor of "assault weapon" bans. To quote another BOGUS stat, 90% of Americans don't favor universal background checks, either. I never cared much for the NRA, but during the recent (three or four years) push for gun control, I decided to join up, and belong to about five groups now, including that dreadful NRA. Keep pushing, people. It's having the complete opposite effect you're hoping for.
Governor Cuomo is probably livid right now that Massachusetts one-upped him. Just got word that someone travelling through NY for a job in NH paused at a rest stop and was arrested for having an "assault weapon" with him. Crazy, that you can't even stop while travelling in NY without breaking the assinine laws.
The polls in favor of an AWB was around 50%.
Poll taken back in December had 89 percent favor background checks.
Probably right about Cuomo, the SAFE act only required registration of assault weapons.
Quinnipiac University poll, conducted Dec. 16-20: "Would you support or oppose a law requiring background checks on people buying guns at gun shows or online?" Support: 89 percent. Oppose: 9 percent. Unsure/No answer: 1 percent.

Again, what is an assault weapon ? Any semi-auto mag fed rifle and or shotgun ? Or just black ones ?
