When Hezbollah terrorists hijacked TWA Flight 847 back in 1985 and murdered U.S. serviceman Robert Stethem, after several days of negotiation the terrorists finally released their 39 remaining hostages. One day later Israel announced they would release jailed shiite terrorists, and over the next few weeks freed more than 700 of them. However, Israel
denied the releases were related to the hijacking.
Was that 'ransom'? Was Israel's claim believable?
I suppose my point is that despite any rhetoric there's a long, documented history of the U.S. and other western countries negotiating with terrorists; including ransoming and bargaining.
