It really works the other way, doesn't it? If GOP insists it was a ransom, then they need to prove it. Are they saying US still owes Iran $400 million for the arms deal?

Obama touched on the subject of the settlement during a Cabinet Room statement that January weekend when the Americans were freed.
"The United States and Iran are now settling a longstanding Iranian government claim against the United States government," Obama said, adding, "For the United States, this settlement could save us billions of dollars that could have been pursued by Iran. So there was no benefit to the United States in dragging this out. With the nuclear deal done, prisoners released, the time was right to resolve this dispute as well."
After the prisoners were released, he released money. That's what Obama said. Looks like ransom to me.

Let's put this in front of an impartial jury to decide what it is. The govt. can spin it their way, but if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck - it's a duck. I suppose if it's found out that there was another 100 billion sent to them on the side - you'd argue that it's interest owed to them on their deposits.

He has been in office for 7.5 years. The money has been there since 1979. Somehow it gets paid at a particular point in time coinciding with the release of the prisoners. The Iranian leaders called it a ransom as well.
Any agreement PRIOR to the revolution is NULL AND VOID the minute they took American hostages. President Trump would have CHARGED THEM INTEREST on money that we were "holding" for them.
If this was THEIR money, it could have been wire transferred to the bank account of the Iranian government. Sending cash is paying a ransom to terrorists.
