Ha!! California wants to leave the Union? Good, let them and their leftist "homeland" be invaded by Mexico!! Let them see how good life is under the Mexican government or its drug cartels.
If they do leave the United States, they leave our common defense/protection. I just hope that there is no defense pact made with them since they will not have a "real" military or are they strategically located to be of any use to the U.S. Maybe they can join up with Canada... If they are stupid enough to allow this to happen since they will have to adopt all their "me first" BS," along with all their criminal gangs.
To the best of my knowledge, if the U.S. leaves, we're taking all our soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines and our border patrol with all their equipment. Simply reposition them on the new border lines with the Republic of California.
Besides Hollywood, California serves no grand purpose for the common good of the nation. So!! Good luck with this movement California and don't let the door knob hit you on the way out!!

There seems to be a prevailing attitude of please leave, and good riddance from most of the rest of the country. We might fight to keep them out, once they've screwed themselves into the ground and start begging to re join however.

Oh I think the people who supported Trump would gladly show up to defend the USA. They after all love their country and don't seek to destroy it as some Hillary supporters do now.

There may be a kink in their quest. All Federal Lands and Buildings would be owned by the US Gov.
what that really means is Federal court buildings, National Agencies Building, National Parks, Federal lands for example Marine Base, SD Navy Yard, 29 Palms, Ft. Erwin, Vandenberg AFB and Marine AS El Toro (Closed)

By all means. California can charge oh $1 million per acre and $1,000 per sq ft per bldg in annual property taxes.

Who will you charge? The US government would evacuate all those buildings and cede them back to the PRoC. If anything the US will be getting paid the market value.
Not part of the US? No need to have much of a presence except for a couple consulates to process visas. The Swiss Embassy can have a US interests section to deal with anything important.
