Sanders and Stein are reasonable, which is a rare quality to find in American politics.

Because you're paying tolls and still paying state+federal gas taxes. Double hit. Plus the toll roads in TX aren't privatized; if they were the costs would be lower. Government can only raise costs; never lower them.

Except that Cintra, the contractor for most of the Dallas and Houston area tollways, was given 50 year non-compete clauses in their contracts, which also means that TxDOT can't by law improve any roads which are seen as being in the "sphere" of the tollways, as it might reduce demand for the tollways, and Cintra has been jacking rates in the last couple years

Texas has no income tax so of course toll roads are used to get revenue. And yes, many are privatized and this system is crony capitalism at its worst.

Your list here is about right. I'd add that Johnson is a fool.

Sanders and Stein are reasonable, and reasonable is rare in American politics. Their policies are also compatible with capitalism.

This is just meaningless rhetoric with no specifics on any policy. Sanders doesnt even want to nationalize the banks that crashed the economy causing the American taxpayer to bail them out. He simply wants to break them up and jail the crooks but not run the banks. If he despised any market approach or capitalism, those banks would be the first to be run by the government.

The appeal likely varies by individual, but broadly speaking, Bernie Sanders was the only principles candidate who ran in either major party who showed civility, humility, and credibility. Many do believe a social democratic system is a superior system. I can't speak much to Stein's appeal aside from her anti-elitism, to which Sanders also has this same appeal.
