I know I'm not going to have the magic words to make everyone here love each other and start singing Kumbaya around the fire, but damn...
What the hell is wrong with us? What's with all the threads that aren't about honest questions at all, but are only intended to insult people with a differing view? What's with pitting city people against country people, or the coasts against "flyover" country? What's with the gloating and the bitterness and the comments that are made for no other reason than to cause another person pain?

I'm sorry, but I have had a truly rotten 24 hours, the kind that makes you value friendship and kindness, and I, a serious liberal, turned to a serious conservative on here for comfort, and received it, in spades. We still disagree about a lot of things, but kindness makes that okay.
Kindness makes most things okay, or if not okay, at least a little better.
Just a stupid rant, and I probably shouldn't have made it, but I really don't care. Like it or not, we need each other.
I'll go along with this. I'm up to the gills with all the bilge meownself. It's like people actually want a rason to get nasty. The current climate is extremely vindictive, and I've had enough of that attitude from other places to get more than a bellyful. And it's coming from every direction. Nothing about any current attitudes is unique to one side or another.
I've never seen things this bad. It's giving me a rash and a migraine.....
It appears that there are more conservatives posting in the forums however liberals simply have learned to avoid commenting on most of the threads and thus avoid reading unpleasant posts.
If you occasionally browse but not post to the threads you will notice this change. There are a number of right wing nut job threads started simply to pick a fight with the other side but only like-minded people are responding. These are like Beavis and Butthead conversations where the respondents confirm and parrot the OP's initial comments. They have to feed each other because no one will take the bait. Not responding deprives them of the psycho-satisfaction that they crave. Since this is more of a right-wing forum anyway, who cares? Don't wrestle with a pig...the pig enjoys it and you just get yourself dirty.
catgirl i could go on and on about this but your thread is not the place for it. Here it is in a nutshell. Liberals and centrists have proven to be incredibly stupid and naive. Obama's milquetoast brand of "liberalism" was just a fairy tale spun to entrance the proles into voting him into office. Once he got elected? He did not do a g-damned thing to warn the country about the impending threat of the fascist right, while everyone in the real world that bothered to pay attention saw it coming decades ago. No one other than bernie sanders truly understood that the future of american democracy hung in the balance in this election; at least no one front and center in american politics. Michael moore (and i am certainly no fan) did at least predict the election of trump - i have to hand that to him.
The bureaucratic centrists of both parties took their eyes off the prize, and they are going to pay for it big time. They totally under estimated the power of the radical right, because in their lifetimes they had never seen a populist movement take over a democracy, most of those old soldiers are dead and gone. They never dreamed of a trump because their imaginations were so limited, and even if they did understand the threat, they were comfortable playing their centrist political game and didn't want to stir the pot. Too politically correct you might say; after all it's not nice to call someone a fascist, right?
But to get to your question and concerns. Hate, bigotry and fear are powerful motivators. They just won an election, right? Many of the posters on this forum are part and parcel of that mindset, they could care less about you, your family or your community. You can't get too wound around the axle about it.

This poster is entirely correct. If you've been here at C-D for one measly month and already express such deep emotions over how the content here leaves you feeling, pull the plug already. It's not for you.
Her deep emotions are not coming from what she sees on the P&OC forum, it's something personal. Coming on here after something so personal and seeing nothing but negative, from both sides, is just the rotten cherry on top of that crap sundae. She is not destroyed by the P&OC forum - in fact, in her "measly month" that she's been here, she has always been open to conversation and has criticized both sides for acting in certain ways. This thread is not her saying that "omg, you guyz, politics is too much for me". That's not what this is at all.
I voted for Trump, and I have only seen meanness and hatred coming from the lefty losers, not the other way around.
The distant relatives who I used to follow on FB, are now people I just want to avoid in the future, because I seem to have no common beliefs with them. All they are interested in is getting something for nothing, and they don't care who pays for it. It amazes me how two people can look at the same facts and come to opposite conclusions.
Conservatives get no credit for tolerating 8 years of Democrates making fun of our values.
Now, we all must stand back and see what happens. I look at the next 4 years hopefully, others with dread. Only time will tell.

Democrats have been seeing this for the past eight years and the one positive - if it can be called that - is giving it back in kind. Don't expect it to get better. If Republicans can do it for eight, we can do it for four. So the answer is, it doesn't stop. For a president elect, Trump is incredibly unpopular, the most unpopular I've ever seen.
What goes around comes around. I didn't vote for Trump but he won the election fair and square. So he deserves the next 4 years. Now it's time to wait and see if he can deliver what he promised, ie. bring people back to the time of Americans feeling great about themselves. If he doesn't then out the door he will go next election cycle. It ain't the end of the world, life goes on. On the other hand, if he does great (somehow) then what's to complain about.
He has the four years but it will not be without opposition. And with Republicans controlling the presidency, the Senate, the House and the Supreme Court for the next four years without checks or balances, Democrats have every reason to highlight where they oppose Trump and the Republican Party which they will do.
When the only response are one-liners, you know without a doubt that you've struck pay dirt. Regardless, does anyone really care what the few dozen RWNJ regulars say or post on this forum? It's the same old rants with zero content, we've heard it all a million times before. I guess CatGirl hasn't quite caught on to this.

It was a bitter presidential election. One side lost, to put it mildly. (More like, got creamed.)
So yeah, some people aren't that happy about it. It happens.
