Same thing I say. I've never seen fights at malls. However, I have heard of them. It's an ongoing problem, and as you say, it's nothing new. Can't fix stupid.
They bulldozed a mall around here about 15 years ago because it got a bad reputation for fighting\crime etc. The other mall in the area that is thriving has a LARGE aggressive mall-cop force and lots of police presence even though it's in a nice area because people come from all over to go there.
Even still they have multiple serious incidents (shootings, abduction etc. not minor stuff like breaking into peoples cars) each year in their parking lot and in the area around there just because of the sheer volume of people that show up there.

It's NOT and "ongoing" problem. Don't try to make it look like a normal thing. It's an extension of street riots.
What would prompt so many teen fight to break out on the same day at malls throughout the country?
Copy cat incidents?
I don't know. Could be that a lot of teens couldn't get free from family due to Christmas and then Monday they all got out, went to the mall and cut loose.
Fights broke out at multiple malls throughout the country in at least 14 states, including but not limited to AZ, CT, Ohio, Texas, NJ, NY, Colorado, TN and NC. Some states experienced outbreaks at multiple malls within single states.
A shout of "gun" caused a stampede of thousands at one mall. People poured out of food courts, leaving half eaten meals. Many of these malls closed early.
Seems most were precipitated by announcements of intended fights between teens on social media. This seems to have compelled thousands of teens to turn out to watch. Some malls experienced simultaneous fights at different locations throughout the mall.
The power of Social Media ...........
Well this isn't social media's fault. These days, kids in America are self entitled spoiled brats that tell their parents what to do instead of the other way around. They start drama and arn't that bright. If I had my way, they wouldn't be able to have a social media acct until 18.
I live 20 minutes from the nearest mall in the Atlanta area. I've never seen fights occur at malls. And this comes from years of going to malls. Never seen a fight.

Same here. Been to malls in Athens,Ga Asheville,NC Greenville,SC. Mall of Ga as well. I went there a lot actually with my wife. I loved going to spencers LOL
I love it when they say "fights" break out. Why don't fights break out at the local flea market or train station? Hint: there is nothing of value to loot. Funny thing is nobody reports on that. Dishonest media!
I don't blame you jumping in to try the steer the conversation away from what this really is. Social media? Please. It is flash mobs storming malls to loot. There are no "fights." Oh, and the culprits are the usual suspects. Now tell me you didn't read it this way!
This does not appear to be flash mobs storming malls with the intent to loot.
I have not come across a single report that looting was the objective of the pandemonium that ensued at so many malls, across the country. This is not to say that when thousands, mostly adults, fled through SFA on their way outside, that some did not help themselves to stuff.
The cell phone clips show a variety of teens engaging in the mayhem.
