Any Philly residents here that can explain to me why they stay in the city that hits them with a 5% income tax as well?

Perhaps if your income isn't too high it doesn't impact people?

I just know that I've read stories over the years about businesses migrating out of Philly to the surrounding area to avoid that tax...wow....5%? Dang.

All the Trumpettes that are debating against the soda tax -- get ready for Trump Tax. It will impact everyone bigly.
And when the cost of Mexican Coke goes up, that provides incentives for either Coke or someone else to produce and sell a similar product made here in the US. I dont see a problem with this, do you?

That is SNAP and not the other programs such as the EBT cards.

If we provide free food, it should be the basics and not treats.

What other unhealthy lifestyle choices would you like to tax/control? Unprotected sex? homosexual sex?
Water sports? snow skiing? bungee jumping?
Are you not tired of paying for the outcomes of these folks too?

It's bad-but many surrounding suburbs have their own wage tax-not as high-but still. It is currently being lowered very slowly incrementally.

One thing we save on is property tax-it is lower than nearly anywhere. I pay about $700 for the year.

And that is the tax most people pay for life. Of course that has since been adjusted to "solve funding problems" but it is still comparatively low. (I used to pay $400 for the year).

First the AVI property tax increase was going to solve funding problems, then casinos, then the cigarette tax, now we have the sugar tax.

And none of those taxes serve the intended purpose. It's funny gambling is illegal unless the govt crime syndicate is running the casino "for the kids"

Yes-it is beyond ironic and hypocritical.

Also "the lottery" as we know it was stolen from the Italian Mob-they ran "numbers" operations in various neighborhoods. The Government made it illegal, then created their own version of it. The sad/crazy thing is that the Government payoff/odds of winning the lottery are much, much, much lower than how it used to be with the Mob.

I guess that means our Government is less fair, moral and just than the Mafia.

I think we can agree

The ones who can are packing their bags and moving to places like North Carolina as fast as they can.

NC will be gaining another seat after the 2020 census, Pennsylvania will be losing another one.

Thanks for the explanation. In comparison I saw a house for sale in Madison WI that was not much over 100k in cost but the property taxes were 5k a year so it makes sense.

Frankly, it seems like the low property\high wage taxes would disproportionately benefit the rich whom could easily own property in Philly but have residency elsewhere.
