Astounding this needs to be repeated. Even that senile old coot St. Ronnie had this concept aced. Made a lot of political hay out of it as I recall.

[quote=Boss;46727597]Here in NC we have 1 carrier in all most all counties. Only the wealthy residents in certain counties have more then 1 company to pick from.

This was done by the insurance corps. themselves.[/

When I was on COBRA back in the day, it cost $700 total. I shopped around-we had tons of carriers to choose from- best deal was $500- wow oh so cheap.

When ACA came around, I checked out Health.gov website. Plenty of states has multiple carriers. Without any subsidy, plans still cost $350 for crappy ones to $600 for good ones. That's WITH healthy competition.

So the republican wet dream of unregulated insurance swindlers, I mean companies, can put whatever clauses they see fit to avoid paying benefits. So instead of $700 it will be "down" to $600 or $500 with "competition" $700 or $500 wow what a deal. Thats' like instead of -40F it's a balmy -25F BOTH are dangerously cold, yet one is still 15 degrees warmer.
$700 or 500 still too much for anyone not making big bucks. But maybe that's the point. The non-rich are obviously lazy parasites so they deserve nothing. Healthcare is a privilege for the well connected wealthy

God help America.

No, that was always the case with going to the ER. Romney and Gingrich called the mandate in RomneyCare "personal responsibility" and cited what is happening with ERs and that was in 2006.

I don't give a ..... What Romney or Gingrich has to say. When one is forced to go to the ER because they are the only ones that will see you without money up front, the system is still broke.

Yes it is but that was true before Obamacare. ERs are not the answer and I've seen first hand how expensive they are. Our son's finger got infected and he hid it from us. He winced, I grabbed his hand, saw it and grabbed the car keys. They had to cut it open to clean it, two different antibiotics plus a shot. Then the bill came. We are fortunate to have good insurance but that ER bill was quite an eye opener. ERs are necessary but they should not be the first stop when people have no insurance. Those doctors are on call 24/7 and it is the most expensive way to treat a patient. Taxpayers pay when patients have no insurance. Has anyone compared how much we spend on the uninsured to what UHC would cost? That should be part of the justification.

ERs are the only medical care option for those without insurance.

Unless there is a free medical clinic in your area, and not many of those, no other medical provider will treat you without insurance.

As far as I'm aware, there are no funds available to reimburse Urgent Care clinic, family practice offices, etc. that treat non-insured patients.

It became a Free market program..allowing Insurance Companies into the circle..Mandate added to make sure people could access ACA with all the regulations.. But par usual..GOP sat on their collective hands and voted NO to it ALL ( except GOP Olympia Snowe)!

http://www.politico.com/story/2012/0...he-gop-0734491.

In October 2009, Snowe was the sole Republican in the Senate to vote for the Finance Committee’s health care reform bill. “When history calls, history calls,” she said at the time. Snowe said she wanted the bill sent to the full Senate, but noted she might not support the final version — and she didn’t. Still, many Republicans didn’t forget voted to bring health care reform up for a vote.

Point is..GOP negotiated..culled down original agenda..demanded a lot of rules regulations that benefited Insurance Companies ( $$$ Backers to them) ..and US got ACA!! From the date it passed..GOP demonized it..put up over 60+ repeals including attaching it to raising the Debt ceiling causing Government SHUTdOWN.. Course Short term memory causes low info types to digest the rhetoric that suits their ignorance levels!!

So, ACA has had numerous challenges in Supreme Court..NONE worked ( including the MANDATE)..so what does GOP do..DEMONIZE..Demonize! Rather than try to make changes to assist or make appropriate changes BO asked for... NOPE..Block..Challenge..ADD Repeala to every flipped bill for 6 years! Does anybody wonder why Citizens are Sick and tired of Congress? So Drain the swamp voters have a new leader who is filling the swamp with many swampy dwellers ( billionaires) that may not have everyday citizen's welfare as their focus?????

Now GOP is HOLDING the BAG..their refusal to assist in fixes to ACA..THEY now risk destroying access to HC to 20+ million people. Many do not even realize they have HC because of new rules under ACA..SO may end up with had if just one of the 3-legged stool sustaining the law..crashes it for EVERYBODY!!

I say..GOP YOU BREAK IT..YOU OWN IT!! AS Biden said.."Go for it!! "
This is exactly what happened. Democrats did everything they could to work with Republicans to develop a bipartisan bill.

In retrospect, this was obviously naive as the negotiations turned out to be nothing more than stalling tactics.

Indeed, we have a lot of irresponsible idiots in this nation. No argument there.

Look what they are trying to do to our nation right now.

Hard to imagine how this is going to Make America Great Again.

Unless, of course, you define Making America Great Again as diabetics going without insulin...

Like any industry (like banking), the small players either get bought out or go bankrupt.
The rules are made (and written by) the big players.

Farming bills are not written by (or for) your small farm.
Banking laws are not written for your small town bank.
Business laws are not written by (or for) your local mom and pop business.
