Once he uses our existing laws to fine businesses who hire them and cuts them off welfare and social security they will self deport, Trump wont need to do more than that.

Forget fiines, it should be jail.

They will risk paying a fine if it just dips into that extra profit, but if they may go to jail, that changes things.

Seems the GOP doesn't really want to solve the issue. They just trick you into thinking they care about the issue so that you will vote for them. But everytime they are in power, they do nothing about E-Verify and they don't deport either
.
That right there is the bottom line. All the rest is hot air. People cross illegally to work, and employers want them here. Illegal employees keep wages and prices low, which employers like. (And consumers like it too, although they don't realize why.) The employers are big companies who lobby politicians to maintain the status quo.

Republicans use this issue for votes and never follow through. If they did, the financial repercussions would be tremendous, and not in a good way.

Agreed.

Jailing employers that knowingly hire illegals is the best way to reduce illegal immigration.

My "most effective" list in order.
1. Jail employers
2. Cut off freebies
3. Deport illegals that are contacted by police as suspects
4. Dont allow driver's licenses for illegals
5. Ban anyone who overstays their visas for life

In other words, the swamp won't be drained. Company lobbyists are still in control. They lobby politicians into avoiding the E-Verify requirement so companies can continue to hire illegals for cheap labor that works long hours for no overtime and they work in unsafe conditions without complaint. Companies need cheap disposable workers and illegals fit their needs.

Trump isn't going to implement E-Verify. It's not on the GOP agenda and hasn't even been discussed. It wouldn't cost the taxpayers any money to implement E-Verify. Instead, the GOP will charge the taxpayers billions and billions for a wall but companies will continue to hire illegals (wall or no wall). Taxpayers lose, corporations win.

The GOP governor of Florida (Rick Scott) ran his campaign promising to force E-Verify. After he won, he stopped talking about E-Verify. Later, when forced to answer, he said it was too costly for employers. He's been in office 6 years and hasn't implemented E-Verify in FL, and he won't. Neither will the GOP House/Senate or Trump.

Rumor is that Rick Scott, the current Gov of FL, will run for the US Senate in 2018. Wonder if he will promise to implement E-Verify for his senate campaign(with no real plans to actually follow through with it). He tricked the voters once, might as well trick them again, I guess.

E-verify was established in 1997 while Bill Clinton was president. If any politician had any interest in seeing it enforced, it would have happened a long time ago.

This is an issue Republicans use to get elected. Much like opposition to gay marriage used to be.

At what point did Trump say he would institute "mass deportations" ?

Those are words the Left put in his mouth to try to conjure up visions of box cars full of people ala Nazi Germany.

I understand why you think that would be effective, but it's actually very counter productive. There many many people here that are subject to a 10 year bar on reentry, that would have left already if that wasn't the case. Barring people from coming back (especially if they have citizen relatives) only makes them dig in harder.

If you allow people to leave and come back legally, and have a better system for keeping track of them while they're here, many people who are in the shadows now would leave of their own accord.

But to make it so they are barred on seeing their families forever is not going to help. Of course this is only relevant if you want to solve the problem. If you want to punish everyone and their families, go ahead.
