Seems this one has flown a bit under the radar with the GOP Healthcare bill getting all the spotlight, but a Democrat has put forth one as well. A system designed to give everyone insurance under the Medicare blanket.
I think Medicare's funding and how it's managed would need to be completely revamped to handle this kind of expansion. T'would be interesting to see the CBO's take on it.
Single payer via Medicare expansion is the way to go, to catch up to the rest of the world.
I'm thinking that, in order to gain more public traction in the first "pass" of moving to single-payer, it might be prudent to roll back most (if not all) of ACA and make the Medicare expansion optional. So if someone wanted to keep their private insurance, they could choose to do. But nobody who opts into Medicare would be denied.
With rolling back ACA the pricing and coverage benefits are between private insurance companies and their customers is between them.
Don't hold your breath on Socialized Medicine for all or some sort of Medicare for all.
I hate Medicare and would love to go back to the Insurance I had before I was forced onto Medicare.
Looks like everyone is against a "fix" to the ObamaCare Debacle.
So be it ........ let it ride exactly the way it is and perhaps in a year people will be willing to look at a way to repeal/replace. Let the Premiums rise out of site. Let the Insurance Companies bug out.
Drug Addicts need to hit bottom before they have a chance of recovery.
Looks like it's the same thing with ObamaCare. Let it implode - the Leftists OWN it.

That phase in would be difficult as the bill proposes financing through increased income taxes not through individual premiums.

Your comment is definitely an anomaly among C-D posters. Most people can hardly wait to get onto Medicare. There are almost zero negative reports from anyone on Medicare on the Health Insurance Forum.
Are you on an Advantage plan? If so, I might understand this comment. Advantage plans can present real problems with limited providers and insurance company oversight. I would avoid Advantage unless financial circumstances gave me no choice.
Otherwise, if you are on Original Medicare with a good supplement and Part D, explain exactly why you hate Medicare? Be specific.

This needs to be made clear. Everybody goes Gaga for Medicare. Why do you hate it?

Theoretically, that money (or at least part of it) could be given back during tax season. Depending upon how they implement it into the tax code, it's likely we would know the exact amount each person "paid in" and could use that as the basis for a refundable credit for things like private insurance premiums or for people who just paid cash for their medical care. Up to a max "reimbursement" of the amount of Medicare Premium Tax they paid in.
Where it would get complicated (and fun, for someone like me who works in the tax industry) is how this expansion would affect tax returns, self-employment, capital gains, dividends, etc. Taxing salary wages alone is definitely not going to be able to fund it entirely and be solvent.
